Colorado left two timeouts on the table on its final drive against Georgia Tech, ending up with a Hail Mary try from 50 yards away. The pass fell incomplete, leaving the Buffaloes with a 27-20 home loss to the Yellow Jackets in Colorado’s first game post Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders.

Without his son, Colorado coach Deion Sanders had problems managing the clock. The Buffaloes (0-1) needed a strong two-minute drill after allowing a 45-yard Haynes King touchdown run, but they managed just six plays with the time available.

Georgia Tech overcame three turnovers to grab the win in Boulder. Colorado will host Delaware on Saturday.

Wildcats Escape From North Dakota

Avery Johnson’s six-yard pass to Joe Jackson gave Kansas State the lead with 42 seconds to play, as the Wildcats narrowly avoided a stunning loss to upstart North Dakota. K-State ultimately survived, 38-35.

The Wildcats (1-1) appeared rusty after losing to Iowa State in Ireland. They had no problems moving the ball, but they also couldn’t stop the Hawks. North Dakota led 21-17 at halftime and scored twice in the fourth quarter to put the Wildcats’ backs to the wall. Johnson saved the Wildcats, throwing for 318 yards and three touchdowns. Kansas State will host Army on Saturday.

Cyclones Blow Away South Dakota

Iowa State never punted in a blowout of South Dakota, scoring on its first nine possessions and scoring a 55-7 win over the Coyotes. Unlike K-State, the Cyclones looked sharp in returning to the United States, as Rocco Becht threw for 278 yards and three scores with just one incompletion.

South Dakota scored on its first drive, but followed with an interception and fell apart from there. Over its final seven possessions, only one went longer than 15 yards. Iowa State (2-0) will host Iowa on Saturday.

Red Raiders Crush Golden Lions

Behren Morton threw for four touchdowns against two incompletions, and Texas Tech scored on its first 11 possessions. Like Iowa State, the Red Raiders never punted, beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 67-7.

Five different Red Raiders caught a touchdown pass, led by Terrence Carter Jr’s pair. For the game, Texas Tech piled up 610 yards of offense to 175 for Pine Bluff. The Red Raiders (1-0) will host Kent State on Saturday.

Jayhawks Cruise to 2-0

Jalon Daniels threw for four touchdowns and Kansas overcame a wasteful performance, routing Wagner 46-7 at home.

Although the Jayhawks (2-0) piled up 630 yards of offense, two miscues made the result look closer than it was. Kansas turned the ball over twice inside the Wagner 10-yard line, both after lengthy drives. Wagner punted on 11 of its 12 full possessions and never stood a chance. The Jayhawks travel to Missouri on Saturday.

Cougars Run Over Portland State

BYU rushed for 468 yards of offense and five touchdowns, and Bear Bachmeier threw for another three, as the Cougars routed Portland State 69-0.

The Vikings went for two yards or less on 10 possessions, including all of their second-half possessions. Portland State never crossed the Cougars’ 30 and only got close enough to attempt a field goal because of a BYU muffed punt return. The Cougars (1-0) scored on six of seven first-half possessions. BYU will host Stanford on Saturday.

Arizona Forces Five Turnovers

Arizona’s opportunistic defense struck early and often in a 40-6 win over Hawai’i, forcing three interceptions and two fumbles in the home victory.

Noah Fifita was unimpressive in leading the Arizona (1-0) offense, but didn’t need to be great in the face of short fields. Quincy Craig ran well, going for 125 yards and a score. Arizona hosts Weber State on Saturday.

Bears Fall to Tigers

Sawyer Robertson threw for three touchdowns, but Baylor went 3-for-6 on fourth downs and allowed a kick return for a score, leading to a 38-24 Auburn victory in Waco.

Baylor (0-1) actually outgained Auburn, but the running game managed just 64 yards on 24 carries. The Tigers rushed for 301 yards, keeping the Bears’ offense on the sidelines. Baylor travels to SMU on Saturday.

Bearcats Fall Short Against Huskers

Brendan Sorsby rushed for two scores and Cincinnati averaged seven yards per carry, but two costly turnovers doomed the Bearcats in a 20-17 loss to Nebraska in Kansas City.

Cincinnati (0-1) got as close as the Nebraska 33-yard-line in the final minute, but Sorsby’s pass into the end zone was intercepted to seal the loss. Cincinnati’s other miscue was a fumble in its own territory, setting up a crucial Nebraska touchdown. The Bearcats host Bowling Green Saturday.

Utes Hammer Bruins

Devon Dampier threw for 206 yards and two scores in his Utah debut, and the Utes crushed UCLA 43-10 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

The Utes (1-0) controlled the ball for 37 minutes and scored on all but one of their drives. Utah led 20-0 in the second quarter and the result was never in doubt from there. The Utes host Cal Poly on Saturday.

Sun Devils Handle Lumberjacks

Sam Leavitt threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns, and defending league champion Arizona State eased to a 38-19 win over Northern Arizona.

The Sun Devils (1-0) didn’t rely on the run as much without Cam Skattebo, but were effective when they did. ASU ran for 203 yards, averaging 9.7 yards per carry. The Sun Devils will visit Mississippi State Saturday.

Black Lifts Knights to Victory

DJ Black caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Tayven Jackson with 1:03 to play, breaking a tie and lifting Central Florida to a 17-10 win over Jacksonville State.

The Knights (1-0) didn’t score until the third quarter, but the defense did its job all night. Before the winning drive, UCF stopped Jacksonville State on a 4th and 1 from the UCF 36, giving the offense its final chance. UCF will host North Carolina A&T on Saturday.

Houston Silences Stephen F. Austin

Houston’s defense pitched a shutout, forcing two turnovers and holding Stephen F. Austin to 144 yards in a 27-0 home victory.

The Cougars (1-0) punted on three of their first four possessions and didn’t look at all impressive on offense. But the Houston defense more than did its job, never letting the Lumberjacks cross the Cougar 40. Houston will visit city rival Rice on Saturday.

Cowboys End Losing Streak

Hauss Hejny ran for a touchdown and threw for another, as Oklahoma State ended a nine-game skid by beating Tennessee-Martin 27-7 at home.

The Cowboys (1-0) did hold an opponent to under 10 points for the first time since Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2022. But they didn’t look very good doing it, as both Hejny and Zane Flores struggled to lead the offense. The Cowboys face a much harder test Saturday, when they’ll visit Oregon.
