Jayhawks’ Win Streak Ended at Nine
Jackson Hauge’s Big 12-leading 15th home run wasn’t enough for Kansas, as the Jayhawks fell at home to Nebraska on Tuesday. The Cornhuskers broke a 4-all tie in the eighth inning, ensuring the Jayhawks’ win streak ended at nine.
Kansas nearly escaped the fateful eighth with the game tied after recording two outs with runners on first and second, but a pair of RBI singles followed to give the Huskers the lead for good. The bottom half of the Kansas order really struggled against Nebraska pitching, as the Jayhawks’ five through nine hitters went a combined 0-for-17 on Tuesday.
Kansas currently leads the Big 12 at 27-7 and moved into the national rankings this week. The Jayhawks will attempt to hold on to first place this weekend at TCU.

Wildcats Run-Rule Missouri State
Kansas State responded after getting swept at Oklahoma State, hitting five home runs and mostly handcuffing visiting Missouri State, earning a 12-2 run-rule win over the Bears. The Bears had turned into a dangerous Tuesday night out, as they had won back-to-back Tuesday games over Oklahoma State and No. 1 Arkansas before running into the Wildcats’ power surge.
Tanner Duke controlled things almost from the beginning for the Wildcats, outside of giving up back-to-back solo home runs in the third inning. Bear Madliak did most of the damage at the plate for K-State, hitting two home runs and a double to drive in three runs. Cayden Phillips ended the game in walk-off fashion, as his two-run home run in the seventh triggered the run rule.
The Wildcats look to get back on track in the Big 12 at home against Central Florida. Kansas State carries a perfect 11-0 record this season in Manhattan.
Knights Lose Lead Late
Central Florida dropped its fourth straight game on Tuesday, falling to a ninth-inning rally in a 6-5 defeat to host North Florida.
The Knights loaded the bases in the top of the ninth and took the lead on a walk to Braden Calise. But Kendrey Maduro then struck out to end the inning, and UCF never got an out in the bottom of the ninth. Seth Alford led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the game, and a walk allowed pinch-runner Connor Moore to steal second and take third on a throwing error. Nick Monile then singled in the winning run for the Ospreys.
Central Florida reached the NCAA tournament last year, but the Knights might be hard-pressed to repeat that. UCF has now lost seven in a row in the Big 12, and things get no easier with a weekend trip to Kansas State.
Cowboys Fail to Build on Momentum
Oklahoma State’s bullpen again fell apart in a midweek game, as the Cowboys gave up four runs in the eighth inning and dropped a 10-6 decision to visiting Oral Roberts. The Cowboys came off a sweep of Kansas State, but needed three pitchers just to get through the eighth. By the time Ryan Ure recorded the final out, the damage was done.
Ian Daugherty launched a pair of home runs for the Cowboys, who fell to .500 with the loss. Oklahoma State faces Arizona in its weekend series.
Sun Devils Put Up 20 On Matadors
Matt King homered in both of his first two at-bats and drove in six runs, as Arizona State pounded Cal State Northridge 20-11 on Tuesday.
The Sun Devils and Matadors chose not to enact the run rule, as the game would have ended after seven innings with Arizona State ahead 17-5. The Sun Devils ended both the seventh and eighth inning with a lead of more than 10 runs, but the teams pressed on. Brandon Compton, Jacob Tobias and Nu’u Contrades joined King in driving in three runs or more. Arizona State will visit Cincinnati this weekend.
Wildcats Battle Past Aggies In Eighth
Easton Breyfogle tripled in Tommy Splaine to break a 9-all tie in the eighth, as Arizona overcame a four-run deficit and bested visiting New Mexico State, 11-9.
Mason White homered twice and drove in five runs for the Wildcats, who will meet Oklahoma State in their weekend series.
Bears’ Bats Fall Silent Against Bobcats
Baylor failed to score until the ninth inning against visiting Texas State, ultimately taking a 6-2 loss on Tuesday night to the Bobcats. The Bears couldn’t take advantage of three Bobcat errors until it was too late, as they managed just six hits and none of them for extra bases. Hunter Simmons was the only one to manage more than one hit, as well as the only Bear with an RBI.
Baylor has lost three of its four league series this year. The Bears visit Texas Tech over the weekend.
Cougars Take Advantage of Owls’ Meltdown
Houston scored three runs in the fifth inning off two walks and a hit batter with the bases loaded, giving the Cougars a comfortable cushion in a 10-7 win over crosstown rival Rice.

The Cougars mostly controlled the game until the Owls countered with the long ball. Rice hit three home runs off the Houston bullpen in the final two innings, making the score respectable. Houston mostly relied on useful outs and Rice’s self-destruction to pad its lead. Of the Cougars’ 10 runs, only three were driven in by a Houston base hit. The rest all came off errors, outs, walks or hit batters. The Cougars play West Virginia this weekend.
Lobos Bury Red Raiders
Connor Mohan never got an out as the Texas Tech starter, allowing all four hitters he faced to reach base and score in a 15-5 run-rule loss at New Mexico.
Mohan gave up home runs to two of the first three batters he faced. The Lobos eventually scored seven in the first frame. Texas Tech never came close to getting even. The Red Raiders ultimately succumbed when the bullpen gave up another seven runs in the final two innings.

Texas Tech is the only Big 12 team that has yet to reach double digit wins. The Red Raiders will meet Baylor this weekend.
Frogs Throw Game Away In Seventh
Three straight singles from Texas-Arlington proved disastrous for TCU thanks to a throwing error from pitcher Trevor Baumler. When Maxwell Mims bunted with two runners on, Baumler’s miscue allowed both to score and got Mims to third. He scored on a wild pitch, and the Mavericks turned a 3-3 tie into a 6-4 win in Arlington.
Sawyer Strosnider notched four hits, including a solo home run. But TCU left 10 runners on and committed two errors, which proved their undoing. The Horned Frogs face Kansas this weekend.
Cougars Whack Utah Tech On the Road
BYU scored nine runs in the fourth inning to break things open. BYU scored in every turn at bat but its last one, earning a 19-1 win over host Utah Tech. The Cougars sent 15 batters to the plate in the fourth, and seven members of their lineup reached base safely at least twice.
BYU’s pitching staff barely took a scratch. The Trailblazers managed just five hits and only scored in the second, just before the floodgates opened. The Cougars visit Utah this weekend.
Walks Doom Bearcats Against Raiders
Eight walks and two errors proved to be Cincinnati’s undoing in the late innings. The Bearcats ended up with a 10-3 loss to Wright State in Mason, Ohio.
Adam Mrakitsch took the loss despite six strikeouts over 4.2 innings. The Bearcats managed just five hits in the contest and didn’t score after the fourth inning. Cincinnati will face Arizona State this weekend.
Poor Knights!
