This marks the 10th edition of Around the Farm. It has been a great time following Mountaineers across the MiLB and collegiate summer leagues, but the series is close to wrapping up its inaugural run. Read more: Around the Farm #10: Ian Korn debuts, reunites with Paul Schoenfeld.
For about another month, though, there is still MiLB action, with the playoffs beginning very soon.
This week’s highlighting news is the MiLB debut of 2026 MLB Draft selection and former WVU Baseball pitcher, Ian Korn.
Korn even reunited with former teammate Paul Schoenfeld in California this past week. However, this time they were opponents.
In other news, three former Mountaineer pitchers picked up wins this past week, and two batters had home runs.

Korn debuts with San Jose Giants; faces Paul Schoenfeld
This past week, Ian Korn became the second WVU Baseball player selected in the 2026 MLB Draft to officially debut in the MiLB.
On Wednesday, Korn was officially assigned to the San Jose Giants, the Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, and played his first game Friday.
Korn was selected in the 10th round with the 298th overall pick by the San Francisco Giants.
Korn came into the game on August 28 as a reliever in the top of the seventh inning against the Visalia Rawhide. He struck out the first two batters he faced.
In the top of the eighth, Korn stayed in as the Giants’ pitcher, and the first batter he faced was his former WVU teammate, Paul Schoenfeld. Schoenfeld lined out to left field.

Schoenfeld was also selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, 236th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He made his debut with the Rawhide on August 11th.
Korn and Schoenfeld (continued)
Together at WVU, Schoenfeld and Korn were a part of the historic Mountaineer squad that went to the College World Series for the first time in program history this past season.
WVU Baseball head coach Steve Sabins shared a photo on social media (the featured image of this post) of Korn and Schoenfeld.
“Paully and Korn reunited. 2 amazing Mountaineers who were instrumental in the first CWS run in program history. Let’s go!” Sabins said on the social media post.
In total, Korn pitched 1.2 innings in his debut and threw 32 pitches. Schoenfeld did not have a hit in the game, but he was walked twice and had a run.
San Jose were the series winners 5-1, but Schoenfeld and the Rawhide won Friday’s game, 9-6.
The week ahead is the final regular-season series for Single-A teams. San Jose has already punched its ticket to the California League North Division Championship. The Rawhide do not have a chance to meet them in the contest, as they are 14 games back.
Top performances across the Mountaineers in MiLB this past week
This past week, several former WVU Baseball pitchers had solid outings.
David Hagaman (Amarillo Sod Poodles, Diamondbacks AA), Jackson Wolf (Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit Tigers AAA), and Carlson Reed (Greensboro Grasshoppers, Pittsburgh Pirates High-A) were all winning pitchers this week.
Hagaman started two games this past week, pitching a total of 8.2 innings and 16 strikeouts. His win on Tuesday was his first since being called up to the Sod Poodles.
Wolf was also a strikeout machine this past week, putting out a total of 11 batters in five innings and allowing no runs in his winning performance on Friday.
Reed, the only relief pitcher of the three, pitched one inning with one strikeout in his win on Tuesday. He pitched again on Friday and added three more strikeouts across three innings.
Two former Mountaineers also hit home runs this past week; Schoenfeld and Kyle West (Hudson Valley Renegades, New York Yankees High-A).
Schoenfeld hit a two-run homer Tuesday, his first of his MiLB career.
West also hit a two-run homer on Friday, which was his 20th of the season. Throughout the week, West had 6 hits and three RBI across five games.
Two weeks ago, Victor Scott II (Memphis Redbirds, St. Louis Cardinals AAA) began building a long hitting streak. The streak ended this week, but he reached 10 games before it ended on Friday.
Mountaineer MiLB Player of the Week
This week’s Mountaineer MiLB Player of the Week is pitcher Jackson Wolf.
Wolf was traded from the San Diego Padres organization to the Tiger’s organization at the MLB trade deadline. This game by far was one of his most efficient this season with the Mud Hens. This was also his first time throwing 10+ strikeouts this season between both teams he played for. Wolf has been trying to work his way back to the MLB since he played his debut, and only, game on July 22, 2023
