Sadler is rated 0.9902 in the 247Sports Composite, making him the highest-rated recruit in WVU basketball history. His addition marks a major milestone for the new head coach and proves that the program is heading in the right direction.
Get to know Sadler
Sadler is a 5-foot-10, 165-pound guard out of Scottsdale, Arizona. He most recently attended Bella Vista Prep, a school that has built a reputation for being one of the elite prep schools on the West Coast.
247Sports currently has Sadler as the No. 4-rated point guard in the country and the No. 40 overall. He has hovered between a four-star and five-star rating across his recruiting journey.
Oklahoma, Tennessee and Arizona State were the three other schools besides West Virginia that were heavily recruiting him. He also had offers from a number of other schools, including Syracuse and Maryland.

Sadler chose the Mountaineers out of that premier group due to the coaching staff’s unwavering trust in him since day one.
“I chose West Virginia based on the trust the coaching staff had in me from day one,” Sadler said. “They have some familiar faces around, and being with my teammates is also a good thing about the program.”
A big reason for his commitment was that his current teammate, Aliou Dioum, has also committed to the Mountaineers. The two of them will be able to step in and make an immediate impact for the Mountaineers next season.
Sadler’s playing style
Sadler brings an unwavering ability to put the ball in the basket, despite being an undersized guard. He has the ability to create his own shot while also displaying elite vision.
He is considered a true three-level scorer. He has shown the ability to score off the dribble any time he wants. While he may be on the smaller side, his above-average quickness and speed make up for it.
Sadler has also shown himself to be a willing defender. He possesses quick hands, which help him get steals and use his speed in transition.
While his size may hinder him at the next level on the defensive side, you can see that he is willing to work on that side of the court. Coach Hodge will be able to improve that area of his game once he steps on campus.
How he will fit at WVU
Looking at the current WVU roster, you notice a lot of seniors. Players like Jasper Floyd, Honor Huff and Treysen Eaglestaff will all most likely be gone after this season.
That will leave a lot of scoring to be replaced next season. Insert Sadler.
Sadler, despite his inexperience, will be able to step in and contribute right away. His ability to get himself open and create scoring opportunities will help the Mountaineers immediately.
Just take a look at Floyd currently. When he is on, he’s able to drive to the basket and cause havoc whenever he wants. That’s exactly what Sadler will be able to do once he gets in a West Virginia jersey.
Anytime you can get a high-level scoring guard, it can help your team tenfold. Sadler will force the defense to stay honest around the paint, but at the same time, respect his shooting ability. His vision will also allow him to become a top passing guard in the nation.
Team-first player
When asked what Sadler could bring to the table, he highlighted his desire to just help the team in any way he can.
“Just being a leader, a vocal guy, and someone that is scrappy on defense for sure. Just whatever the team needs me to be for the year, and hopefully win a lot of games,” Sadler said.
A bright future for the program
With the addition of Sadler, coach Hodge is proving that he is building something special at West Virginia. He has already started his first year at the helm undefeated, and now he is making program-shifting moves in the recruiting process.
Mountaineer fans may have to wait another year to see him play, but it’ll be worth the wait, as they haven’t seen someone of Sadler’s caliber in a long time.
