How WVU Golf fared in Day 1 at the Marana Regional

Westy McCabe led the way for the Mountaineers with a final day one score of -3. Nicholas Turowski finished right behind him with a score of -2. 

Kaleb Wilson finished five over par, with Jack Michael and Ryan Leach rounding out the group with scores of six over. 

Where WVU currently stands 

The Marana Regional is hosting 14 teams, and with WVU currently pitted at 10th in the standings, it will have some ground to make up in the next two days. 

As for the individual rankings, McCabe has put himself in a position tied at seventh. The senior shot just one bogey in the first 18 holes and a solid four birdies. 

Turowski is currently tied at 15th as he shot four birdies and one eagle on the par-5 fifth hole. However, he also shot two bogeys and one double bogey.

Wilson is tied for 57th after he shot three bogeys and one triple bogey. 

Michael and Leach are both tied for 65th. Michael shot four birdies, but two bogeys, two triple bogeys, and one double bogey dramatically hurt his day. 

Leach finished with no birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey. 

The rest of the field 

Leading the Marana Regional after day one are Arizona and Oklahoma State. The two Big 12 foes finished 11 under. 

LSU is close behind at nine under, while Arkansas State and Duke round out the top five with a seven-under and six-under day. 

North Dakota State finished at the bottom with a final score of 15 over par. None of their five golfers finished under par.
