How the Season Begins
West Virginia will begin their season in front of the Mountaineer faithful at Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. against Robert Morris. ESPN+ will televise this first-time matchup between the schools.
The Mountaineers will then travel to Peden Stadium to take on Ohio University on Saturday, Sept. 6. This will mark the 18th meeting between them, with WVU leading the series 12-5. With these two teams facing each other for the first time since 2001, this long-awaited matchup will kick off at 4:00 p.m. on ESPNU.

Following their trip to Athens, WVU will return to Morgantown to take on their bitter rival—the Pittsburgh Panthers. The 108th installment of the Backyard Brawl will take place on Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m. ESPN will televise the final game of the current four-game contract between the schools. A new contract will begin in 2029.
A Taste of Big 12 Action
Only one of WVU’s Big 12 conference slate has been announced, which is against BYU. The Mountaineers will travel to Provo, Utah, on Oct. 3, ET. ESPN will televise the Friday night matchup at 10:30 p.m. ET.
The Mountaineers will open conference play against the Kansas Jayhawks on Sept. 20. This and the rest of the conference game times and network partners will be announced in either a 12-day or six-day window prior to the date of the game.
Rodriguez and his Mountaineers will be eyeing that Aug. 30 season opener to begin their hopes of improving from a disappointing season last year.
