When it rains, it pours. Read more: Nicco Marchiol Adds to Lengthy Injury Report for WVU
With sources stating that quarterback Nicco Marchiol is officially out for the rest of the season with a foot injury, that statement is certainly coming true for West Virginia.
Here’s an in-depth look at Marchiol’s injury report as well as the other notable Mountaineers sidelined for their week 6 matchup against BYU.
Nicco Marchiol
Marchiol’s foot injury came as a surprise to most people, including head coach Rich Rodriguez.
After the loss to Kansas, Marchiol went to see specialists regarding his potential foot injury. While Rodriguez wanted him to get a second opinion from the WVU doctors, Marchiol will not play another game this season.
With this new status, it also means that Marchiol will receive a medical redshirt. That means he has two more years of eligibility.

Now’s no time to speculate about next season, but this also points towards the high probability of Marchiol transferring after this season is complete.
Marchiol has shown potential with West Virginia, most notably in the 2024 season when he led the Mountaineers to a 2-0 record as a starter. The Arizona Native also led the improbable comeback against Pittsburgh this season.
With Marchiol officially out for the rest of the season, the Mountaineers will have to turn to the other quarterbacks on their roster for answers.
Other Notable Injuries
Marchiol is not the only injured Mountaineer heading into the BYU game this Friday. Running back Jahiem White and wide receiver Jaden Bray continue to be sidelined as their season is also done.
Safety Julien Horton and offensive lineman Cooper Young will also not be available this week against the Cougars. One of the bright spots on the defensive line, Devin Grant, is doubtful this week.

Running back Tye Edwards, who has missed time due to a hip injury, is questionable this week. He will most likely be a game-time decision.
Quarterbacks Max Brown and Jaylen Henderson are also questionable. To round out the offense, receiver Oran Singleton and starting offensive lineman Kimo Makane’ole are questionable as well.
BYU’s Injuries
The Cougars have some injuries of their own. However, not nearly to the extent of the Mountaineers.
Cornerback Jonathan Kabeya, wide receiver Jojo Phillips, running back Sione Moa and linebacker Choe Bryant Strother are all ruled out for Friday’s matchup. Offensive lineman Austin Leausa is questionable.
What Happens Next
With the injuries continuing to pile up for the Mountaineers, all they can do is continue to have the next man up philosophy. Some years, teams have the unfortunate case of the injury bug, and it’s safe to say the Mountaineers have fallen under that curse this year.
Players such Khalil Wilkins and Clay Ash will have to step up not only in this week’s matchup against BYU, but for the rest of the season. West Virginia will play BYU on Friday, Oct. 3, at 10:30 p.m. EST.
