West Virginia was also recognized as a Scholar All-American Team for the spring 2025 semester.

How To Qualify

Athletes can qualify for either Second-Team or First-Team honors depending on their GPA and achievements in the water.

By earning a 3.5 GPA or higher and either meeting a B time standard for the national championship or qualifying for a diving zone qualification meet, athletes can earn second-team nods.

In order to qualify for the first team, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship.

The Honorees

The six Mountaineers honored were split evenly between the men’s and women’s groups. Owen Recker, Conner McBeth and Justin Heimes were the male recipients, while Abigail Sullivan, Sarah Krusinski and Miranda Kirtley made up the women’s group.

Recker, a sophomore, was the lone Mountaineer to earn First-Team Scholar All-American honors. This comes after he became the first WVU diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 2022.

Seniors McBeth and Heimes were both named to the second team. Heimes was previously named to the 2025 Winter Academic All-Big 12 Team.

All three of the women were also recognized as Second-Team Scholar All-Americans. Just like Heimes, the three of them were also named to the 2025 Winter Academic All-Big 12 team.

Succeeding as a Whole

West Virginia’s swimming and diving team wasn’t just awarded individual accolades; they were awarded as a school for their academic achievements.

This distinguished honor comes after the women’s team posted a combined 3.61 GPA and the men posting a 3.36 GPA for the spring semester.

West Virginia has yet to make waves at the highest level, but the ongoing efforts of the student-athletes involved will continue to make strides toward that goal.
