The West Virginia Women’s Tennis Club was defeated by the Arizona Sun Devils (No. 30) on Friday in Tempe Arizona by a 4-0 decision.

Match Recap

The Sun Devils got off to a fast start as they secured a win in the doubles point match to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The doubles match pairing of senior Michaela Kucharova and freshman Laura Villanueva was left unfinished despite having a 5-4 lead over Arizona State’s Sara Svetac and Karin Altori.

Graduate student Julie Bousseau lost the No. 2 seed match 6-0, 6-1. Michaela Kucharova was defeated in the No. 3 spot by 6-1, 6-0 decisions. Arizona State put the match out of reach as WVU senior Tatiana Lipatova was bested in the No.6 seed match by 6-0, 6-2 decisions.West Virginia falls to an overall record of 6-10 and are still winless (0-5) in Big 12 competition, the Mountaineers currently sit in the No. 15 spot in the Big 12 Conference.

West Virginia Vs Arizona Preview

The Mountaineers look to rebound this Sunday afternoon and end their skid of six straight matches lost, and to get their first victory in Big 12 play of the season as they face the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson at 2 p.m. ET. The matchup will be an uphill battle for the Mountaineers as the Wildcats currently sit in the No.3 spot in the Big 12 and have an overall record of 12-5 and a Big 12 record of 4-1. The Wildcats have won their last two matchups by defeating the Kansas Jayhawks by a score of 4-2 and the Cincinnati Bearcats by a score of 4-0. Follow the matchup here
