Tait was successful in joining graduate student and teammate, Ceili McCabe, with a fourth-place finish.

Also being a native of Edinburg, Scotland, Tait would become the new record holder of the Scottish national record. Prior to Tait, the record was held by Eilish McColgan since 2013. McColgan’s record was 9:35.82, which Tait crushed by eight seconds.

New Scottish Record Holder

Tait’s impressive performance made the news in Scotland as well, via Scottish Athletics.

The site praised Tait, stating:

“Sarah Tait broke the Scottish Record for the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase in America. Sarah was fourth in the NCAA final as she took her PB down to an impressive 9:27.80 – and that wipes out the mark held for a number of years by Eilish McColgan (at 9:35).”

Also according to British Athletics, Tait has been chosen by the Great Britain and Northern Ireland (GB&NI) Team to participate in the 2025 European Athletics Team Championships!
The top division of these Championships will take place on June 26-29, in Madrid, Spain. 42 chosen athletes will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and will challenge 15 other countries in four days of competition.

Tait will represent the squad in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and she will be one of ten athletes making their senior international debut.

Paula Dunn, Performance Director at UK Athletics, had this to say about her hopes for the competition:

“Competing in Madrid against Europe’s best will be a key milestone for many as we look ahead to the World Championships later in the year. I am confident that this team will rise to the challenge and look forward to supporting the squad in Spain.”

Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer

Although Tait’s time as a Mountaineer has come to a close, we can continue to support her during her time in the European Athletics Team Championships!
