Weekly recap: Record-breaking week for McDonald, tough weekend for Tennis

WVU Track & Field and WVU Tennis had a busy week of competition. Annishka McDonald had an outstanding week for T&F, earning Student-Athlete of the Week honors after breaking her own outdoor school record in the high jump twice—first with 1.85m at the Raleigh Relays and then with a personal best of 1.87m at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational, a mark tied for second in NCAA Division I this season. Several other Mountaineers posted strong performances as well, including personal bests from Olivia Cress, Lily Haught, and Mae Nelson across various events. Track and Field

It was a great week for redshirt junior Annishka McDonald. McDonald earned honors after setting a new outdoor school record in the high jump at the Raleigh Relays, winning the event with a clearance of 1.85 meters. She now holds both WVU records for outdoor and indoor high jumps.

McDonald went on to deliver another record-breaking performance at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational on Friday and Saturday. She won the high jump with her personal best clearance of 1.87 meters, breaking her own WVU outdoor school record. The mark is tied for No. 2 in NCAA Division I this season.

Olivia Cress finished in fifth place in the high jump with a personal best 1.73 meters and recorded another personal best in the 100-meter hurdles (14.43) to finish at 15th.

Lily Haught posted a personal best on the track, finishing with a time of 1:02.53 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish fifth. Aislinn Frazer led WVU in the 1,500 meters, finishing in 12th place with a time of 4:36.53. Eva Rinker followed with a 17th place finish and a time of 4:40.38.

Eva Craigie led the Mountaineers in the 100 meter sprints (12.05) and finished in eighth in the long jump (5.64m).

Sabrina Jones finished in 14th place in the long jump (5.47m).

Cate Pickering set the pace for WVU in the 200 meters (25.15) and 400 meters (58.21).

Mae Nelson finished with a personal best 26.13 in the 200 meters.

Tennis

WVU Tennis lost both their matches over the weekend, falling 0-4 to Kansas and 2-4 to Iowa State.

Match against Kansas

The Jayhawks secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and three, the match on court two was left unfinished.

Kansas secured its victory with three singles triumphs, while three additional matches were left unfinished, giving the Jayhawks a 4-0 victory.

Match against Iowa State

WVU suffered another defeat against Iowa State by a 4-2 decision. The Cyclones secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two, the Mountaineers were able to secure a victory on court three.

West Virginia responded in singles play with two victories. Laura Villanueva Morillo earned a straight-set win on court two, while Julie Bousseau followed with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on court three.
