Early Signs of Dominance

Throughout her young career, Mendoza has already proven she can be a key contributor in the future for the Mountaineers. A four-year Level 10 gymnast and three-time qualifier for the Women’s Development Program National Championships showcase her natural athleticism and commitment to consistency.

In order to become a Level 10 gymnast, Mendoza had to master all four events—vault, beam, bars and the floor. At the same time, she had to compete at multiple regional, national and even international events.

Due to how difficult it is to achieve this feat, a Level 10 gymnast is considered the highest level an athlete can reach before entering elite status, where athletes then compete for the Olympics.

Adding to the Resume

Mendoza made her first appearance at nationals in 2022, where she secured a top-15 finish in the bars.

She also qualified for nationals in 2024 in the bars, following a top-10 finish at the 2024 Regional Championships. She finished in the top 15 at nationals.

A year later, Mendoza competed at the 2025 DP National Championships, where she participated on the uneven bars in the All-Stars division. Once again, she earned a spot at nationals after finishing in a tie for second place at the Region 5 Championships on the bars.

A First Impression Goes a Long Way

Mendoza’s effectiveness at all four events throughout her junior career went a long way in her recruitment to West Virginia. However, it was her personality that won over the Mountaineers’ coaching staff.

West Virginia’s assistant coach Kaylyn Millick said this about her, “As soon as Haley stepped foot on campus, we knew she would be an incredible addition to our Mountaineer family,” Millick said. “She’s extremely easygoing, sweet and beamed with excitement about the opportunity. She has three years of elite gymnastics experience, as well as a successful JO resume, especially on uneven bars. I have no doubt that her positive work ethic and beautiful style will make an immediate impact on our lineups.”

Mendoza’s Arrival

Mendoza will enroll at WVU this fall, where she will look to help the Mountaineers win their first NCAA Championship.

She also plans to major in communications.
