Recap Of Clemson Vs USC Upstate Matchup

Clemson won their first game against USC Upstate, 7-3.

The Spartans opened up the scoring in the top of the second as Johnny Sweeney hit his 18th home run of the season to give USC Upstate a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, the spartans would add some insurance to their lead as Gage Griggs recorded an RBI to bring in Scott Newman from third base to extend the Spartan lead to 2-0.

The Tigers would finally answer in the top of the fifth as Cam Cannarella hit a double to drive in two runs and tie the game up at 2. The Tigers took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly from Collin Priest.

The Spartans responded in the top of the eighth with a solo shot from Scott Newman to knot the game back up at 3.

Clemson regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth thanks to an RBI from Tyler Wentworth to put the Tigers back in front 4-3. The Tigers added to their lead with a sacrifice bunt from Andrew Ciufo to bring Jack Crighton home to extend the Clemson lead to 5-3. Cam Cannarella continued to pad the Clemson lead with a two-run homer to give Clemson a 7-3 lead.

Clemson was able to hold the lead and secure a 7-3 victory over the Spartans.

West Virginia Vs Clemson Preview

The Mountaineers look to keep up the momentum after a thrilling comeback victory over the Kentucky Wildcats Friday afternoon. West Virginia overcame a 3-0 deficit and scored four unanswered runs to win the game by a final score of 4-3.

The Mountaineers will likely turn to Jack Kartsonas on the mound tomorrow to face the Tigers. Kartsonas is 6-3 on the season and has a 2.9 ERA with 69 strike outs.

West Virginia will be faced with a tough task during their matchup with Clemson, as they look to contain Cam Cannarella, who has a .339 batting average with 74 hits, 20 doubles, and 57 runs on the season.

Clemson’s Dominic Listi poses another great threat to the Mountaineers. Listi has a .306 batting average with 59 runs (team leader in runs) on 59 hits and 15 doubles on the season.

Both West Virginia and Clemson displayed their abilities to come back and steal a victory during their games on Friday as star players from both teams delivered when called upon. Both teams have faced similar adversities during the final weeks of the regular season, as Clemson finished the regular season 5-5 in their last 10 games.

The Mountaineers finished their regular season by going 3-7 in their last 10 games and defeat Cincinnati in the first round of the Big 12 Championship before falling to Arizona 12-1 in the second round.

Clemson had more success than the Mountaineers in their conference championship by winning in the first three rounds before falling to North Carolina 14-4 in the fourth round of the ACC Championship.
