West Virginia University golfer Kaleb Wilson continued his showing at the NCAA Golf Regional, playing his second set of 18 holes at Poplar Grove Golf Course in Amherst, Virginia as WVU’s sole representative on the event. Read more Wilson competes in second of three rounds of NCAA Golf Regional.
Wilson followed up his first day where he shot a 71 (+1) with a 76 (+6), moving him to +7 overall in the event, falling to T-46th. The Knoxville, Tennessee native was -3 at hole 23 and remained below par as far as through hole 29, but bogies on holes 30-33 followed by a triple bogey on hole 34 saw him plummet in the standings.
Overall, the first-placed team at the Amherst regional was Tennessee at -4, with Jackson Van Paris (-6) being the individual leader. Following the Volunteers in first were Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Florida Gulf Coast and Arizona. A top five finish is required to advance to the NCAA Championships at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California on May 23-28.
While Wilson was the only Mountaineer in action, there were a plethora of others playing around the Big 12.
Around the Big 12
Through 36 holes the Vanderbilt Commodores gained the lead, leaping Tennessee for first place (-3). Tennessee and Oklahoma both shot even par, tying them for second. In fourth are the Arkansas Razorbacks (+4), as the Arizona Wildcats hold on to the crucial fifth spot with a +8 score, though Florida Gulf Coast (+9) and Pepperdine (+10) are within striking distance. Jackson Van Paris remained in first as he improved his score to -7, followed by Arizona’s Filip Jakubcik (-4) in second. Jakubcik’s teammate Zach Pollo makes the top ten, as he and five others are tied for eighth with -1 scores.

TCU is currently 11th out of 13 teams in the Auburn Regional with a +20 score, while BYU is faring much better at the top of the Reno Regional. Peter Kim leads the way for the Cougars, as his -3 score places him in a four-way tie for second, while his teammate Cole Ponich (-2) is right behind him in a four-way tie for sixth. Zac Jones also placed below bar, as his -1 score puts him just in the top ten alongside five others.
Urbana Regional
The Urbana Regional contains two Big 12 programs in the top five spots, with Oklahoma (-7) in a tie for second, while Texas Tech at -2 is in fourth place. Meanwhile, Houston is in a tie for 11th with a +17 score. Texas Tech’s Calum Scott and Cincinnati’s Ryan Ford are in tie for fourth, as both have shot -5 through 36 holes. Oklahoma State’s Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson (-3) is in a tie for ninth and Paul Beauvy of Iowa State is tied for 14th with a -1 score.
Bremerton Regional
Over in the Bremerton Regional, three Big 12 teams are set to advance, headlined by Arizona State in second place with a tremendous -16 score. Following this, Colorado (+1) and Kansas State (+6) are in fourth and fifth. Additionally Utah is in a tie for eighth with a +8 score, and Kansas’s score of +16 places them in tenth. Utah’s Braxton Watts and Connor Williams (-6) are tied for third, with Kansas State’s Cooper Schultz as well as the ASU duo of Peer Wernicke and Preston Summerhays are tied for sixth with -4. Hunter Swanson (-3) of Colorado is tied for ninth, while Josele Ballester is in 13th with a score of -2.
The third round will commence tomorrow, with Wilson set to tee off at 2:12 p.m.
