Wilson, Mountaineers, wrap up season after round three of NCAA Golf Regionals

Kaleb Wilson wrapped up his season in the third round of the Amherst Regional on Monday, bringing an end to the 2024-25 West Virginia University golf season. Read more Wilson, Mountaineers, wrap up season after round three of NCAA Golf Regionals below. 

The junior Knoxville, Tennessee native and second-ever NCAA Championship qualifier in WVU history posted scores of 71 and 76 in the first two rounds, and posted a 74 on Tuesday, bringing his overall score to +11, tying him for 55th place. Wilson never recovered from two double bogies, and ended up tallying a 220 over three days.

In the regional stage, the top five programs in each of the six regionals as well as the top individual player not part of those programs earned qualification to the 2025 NCAA Division Golf Championship at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California on May 23-28.

Vanderbilt Dominates

The top five schools in the Amherst regional were Oklahoma (-10), Vanderbilt (-6), Tennessee (-5), Wake Forest (-1) and Pepperdine (+9), with the Big 12’s Arizona just missing the cut with a +10, placing sixth. Jackson Van Paris of Vanderbilt was the top finisher overall at -8, while Texas State’s Sakke Siltala earned a trip to California with a -5 finish in second place. Filip Jakubcik was the top Big 12 finisher with a -4, tying him for fourth, while his teammate Zach Pollo (-2) finished in a four-way tenth.

Auburn Wins Easily

The Auburn region saw the hosting Tigers win quite easily with a -32 score, followed by Texas A&M (-5), UCLA (+6), Purdue (+9) and Georgia Tech (+10). TCU’s appearance was not fruitful, as the Horned Frogs shot a +30, finishing 10th out of 13 teams.

Auburn’s Jackson Koivun shot the best score in the regional with a -12, while Claes Borregaard earned a bid with his second-placed -8 score. TCU’s Joe Padgin and Toby Wilt were the top finishers in the conference, both tied for 31st place with +6 scores.

Oklahoma State Continues Their Success

The Urbana Regional has two qualifiers from the Big 12, as Oklahoma State tied for first with host Illinois with a -15 score, while Texas Tech was in fifth with a -1, behind UNLV (-6) and Troy (-2). Houston posted a stellar round three score of -7 to jump four spots, but it was not enough as they finished seventh (+10).

Hunter Thomson of Michigan finished atop the regional’s leaderboard, and will be headed to California next week to compete in the National Championship. Just missing out is Cincinnati’s Ryan Ford, as he and Ryan Voois of Illinois finished in a three-way tie for second with -9. Calum Scott of Texas Tech and Jackson Buchanan of Illinois tied for fifth with -5 scores, with Preston Stout of Oklahoma State (-5) tying for eighth.

ASU and Colorado

The Bremerton Regional also saw two Big 12 qualifiers, as Arizona State (-25) and Colorado (-4) finished second and third behind Florida (-28). They’ll be joined in California by fourth-place USF (-2) and fifth-placed South Carolina (even). Utah (+1) just missed the cut, while Kansas State trailed them in seventh with a +3, with Kansas (+21) finishing far out in 10th. It wasn’t all bad news for Utah though, as Braxton Watts (-12) secured an individual bid by one stroke. Arizona State had three top ten finishers, as Connor Williams was fifth with a -7 while Josele Ballester and Michael Mjasseth (-3) were in a three-way tie for ninth. Hunter Swanson of Colorado shot a -5, placing him seventh.

BYU (-15) topped the Reno Regional, trailed by Virginia (-11), Texas (-8), San Diego (+8) and California (+9). Cole Ponich of BYU finished in second with a -7, right ahead of Bryan Kim of Duke whose -6 score will send him out west to compete in Carlsbad. Peter Kim was another Cougar in the top 10, finishing fifth (-5).

Hosts Florida State topped the Tallahassee Regional with a -29, with Ole Miss (-20), New Mexico (-14), Georgia (-7) and Augusta (-3) following them. Jacob Modleski of Notre Dame will be packing his bags for California as well after a fourth-placed -9 score.
