Jace Rinehart

In his lone year with the Mountaineers, Jace Rinehart has made quite an impact on the baseball diamond. The Mannington, WV native has batted .356 in the 47 games he’s appeared in this season. To add, Rinehart has gone yard four times and amassed 39 RBIs. Rinehart transferred to WVU after three seasons at USC-Upstate, where the coveted outfielder was a two-time member of the All-Big South Second Team.

Grant Hussey

The “home run king” in WVU baseball history, Grant Hussey, comes into the final weekend of regular season play with four seasons under his belt. Hussey hails from Parkersburg, WV, where he formed his craft at Parkersburg South High School. The first baseman has collected 44 home runs in his time with the Mountaineers and started 208 of the 216 games he has played in since coming onto the scene in 2022.

Brodie Kresser

The senior infielder, Brodie Kresser, wraps up his college career this season after spending 2024 and 2025 with the Mountaineers. Before making the jump to Morgantown, Kresser played his first two seasons in his home state of Iowa at the Des Moines Area Community College (2022-2023). In Kresser’s time at WVU, the Jesup native has batted in 61 RBIs and started 91 of the 96 games he has played in for the old gold and blue.

Reese Bassinger

The first of four pitchers on the list of seniors, Reese Bassinger, has been a constant figure in the Mountaineers’ bullpen throughout the 2025 campaign. The right-handed pitcher joined the WVU club in 2025, following a one-year stint at Tarleton State University in Bassinger’s home state of Texas. Before that, the 6’1” pitcher spent his first two seasons playing for Odessa Junior College. In 2025, Bassinger has an ERA of 3.81 and a record of 6-1, while also collecting five saves.

Kyle West

Another West Virginia native, Kyle West, transferred from the University of Charleston in 2024 and has spent two seasons raking for the Mountaineers. The 6’4” infielder went yard 14 times in 2024, and eight more times so far this season. As one of the most consistent hitters on the team in 2025, West currently holds a batting average of .336 and has produced 32 RBI.

Tyler Hutson

Making 13 appearances in 2025, Tyler Hutson is another member of the Mountaineers’ bullpen. Hailing from Kentucky, the Southern Indiana transfer has spent his lone season with WVU as a relief pitcher, but also got the nod to start one game earlier in 2025. Before joining the Mountaineers, Hutson dealt 132 strikeouts with the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana. The 6’4 right-handed pitcher currently holds a 4.13 ERA in his time with WVU.

Griffin Kirn

The only left-handed pitcher of the bunch being recognized this weekend, Griffin Kirn, has been a consistent starter for West Virginia in 2025. The red-shirt senior spent four years as a starting arm for Quincy University in his hometown of Quincy, Illinois, before transferring into the program. Kirn finished his time at Quincy with an impressive 22-8 record and was a three-time member of the First Team All-Region squad. In his lone season with the Mountaineers, Kirn has started all 13 games he has appeared in and holds a record of 4-1.

Jack Kartsonas

Last but not least, Jack Kartsonas is a Kent State transfer who slowly worked his way into the starting position for Sunday contests. Kartsonas started his senior season as a reliever for the Mountaineers, but eventually earned the coveted spot as the Sunday starter. With five starts in 16 appearances, the senior right-handed pitcher hailing from Pittsburgh has become a fan favorite as a high-quality pitcher with a high-quality mustache.

A Potential Goodbye

Senior Day is a different beast in the NIL era, with many athletes only spending one or two seasons with a program. Some of the men listed in the article may return or transfer, or never even pick up a glove or bat again, but they can all say they spent their senior seasons with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Senior Day is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday at Kendrick Family Ballpark, where WVU will play host to the Kansas Jayhawks.
