WVU Baseball’s Path in the Clemson Regional

West Virginia has secured a spot in the NCAA Regionals, where they are the No. 2 seed in the Clemson region.

With their first game being played on Friday, let’s look at the first hurdle West Virginia has to clear in their journey towards the program’s first national championship. Read more: WVU Baseball’s Path in the Clemson Regional

The Path For West Virginia

West Virginia will open their weekend in Clemson, South Carolina, on Friday, where they will face the Kentucky Wildcats. First pitch is scheduled for noon ET, with coverage beginning at 11:45 a.m. ET.

If West Virginia wins that game, they will take on the winner of Clemson and USC Upstate on Saturday, where coverage would start at 5:45 p.m. ET. If the Wildcats beat the Mountaineers on Friday, West Virginia will then have to face the loser of Clemson-USC Upstate on Saturday, with coverage beginning at 11:45 a.m. ET.

Now, if West Virginia loses both, then their season will be over. However, let’s have a more positive mindset and assume they win at least one of those games. If they lose Friday but win Saturday, they will play an undecided opponent on Sunday. Coverage for that game will start at 11:45 a.m. ET.

Should they win, they would have to play a second game on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET in a must-win scenario.

Best Case Scenario

If all goes as planned for the Mountaineers, they will beat Kentucky on Friday and then follow it up with another win on Saturday. If this were to happen, West Virginia would just have to play the 6:00 p.m. game on Sunday. Coverage for that matchup would begin at 5:45 p.m. ET.

Lastly, if this scenario were to play out, the only way WVU would play on Monday is if they lose the 6:00 p.m. game. This would mean that both teams have one loss, and with the regionals being double elimination, a final game on Monday would decide who moves on to the Super Regionals.

The time for that game has yet to be determined.

West Virginia’s game against Kentucky on Friday will air on ESPNU and be available to stream on ESPN+. All WVU games can be heard on WVU’s flagship station, WVST 100.9 FM, and its nine affiliate WV stations and on the WVTheTorch app.
