Early momentum: Mountaineers grab 1-0 lead in the first
Alex Overbay was on the mound for the Sun Devils Saturday. Matt Ineich led off the top of the first for the Mountaineers with a single to center. Gavin Kelly followed with a single of his own to right field to advance Ineich to third. Following a pop out from Paul Schoenfeld, Sean Smith delivered a single to right to score Ineich and give WVU a 1-0 advantage. Brock Wills grounded to second and Smith was called for interference, resulting in a double play to end the inning.
Sun Devils tie it up
Maxx Yehl took the mound for WVU Saturday. Yehl gave up a double to the leadoff hitter Landon Hairston. A wild pitch from Yehl advanced Hairston to 3rd, then a wild throw to third scored Hairston to tie the game 1-1. PJ Moutzouridis was hit by a pitch but was later thrown out trying to steal second for the first out of the inning. Following a strikeout to Austen Roellig, Yehl gave up a single to Nu’u Contrades, but was able to get out of the inning thanks to a fly out from Dean Toigo.
WVU explodes in the second
Following singles from Brodie Kresser and Matthew Graveline to open the second inning for WVU, Armani Guzman laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners.
Tyrus Hall tripled off the center field wall to score two and give WVU a 3-1 lead. Hall scored from third on a wild pitch to make the score 4-1.
Ineich reached base on a walk. Following a fly out from Kelly that advanced Ineich, Schoenfeld was hit by the pitch to give WVU another base runner.

Smith hit to shallow center to score Ineich and a wild throw to third allowed Schoenfeld to score to give the Mountaineers a 6-1 lead, Smith was able to reach 3rd after the Sun Devils failed to cover the base. Wills added to the WVU lead with an RBI of his own, hustling to first base for a hit to score Smith and make the score 7-1. Kresser struck out to end the inning.
Yehl retied the side in the bottom of the second, recording another strikeout and two fly outs.
After a ground out from Graveline, Guzman doubled to left and then stole third base on a four-pitch walk to Hall.
ASU made a pitching change, bringing in Jaden Alba from the bullpen.
Hall beat a throw to steal second base, the throw allowed Guzman to score from third to extend the lead 8-1.
Iniech grounded out for the second out. Following a walk to Kelly, Schoenfeld flew out to center to end the inning.
Beckett Zavorek led off the inning for ASU with a single, Hairston followed with a fly out to deep center. PJ Moutzouridis grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The Mountaineers went down in order in the top of the fourth. Following fly outs from Roellig and Contrades, Toigo singled to give the Sun Devils a base runner with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Dominic Smaldino grounded into a force out at second to end the inning.
Hairston’s two-run homer: ASU cuts into lead in the fifth
The Sun Devils once gain retired the Mountaineers in order in the top of the fifth. ASU cut into the Mountaineer lead in the bottom of the inning, thanks to a two-out home run from Hairston to cut the lead 8-3. Yehl struck out Moutzourdis to end the inning.

After an uneventful sixth inning, Brady Louch entered the game from the ASU bullpen. Louck retired the Mountaineers in order, recording two strikeouts. Yehl responded by retiring the Sun Devils in order in the bottom of the seventh.
WVU extends lead in the eighth
Armani Guzman opened the top of the eighth by singling to left.
ASU made another pitching change to bring in Josh Butler.
After a stolen base from Guzman, Hall went down on strikes for the first out.
Ineich grounded out to first to advance Guzman to third.
Kelly stepped to the plate and smashed a two-run home run to left field to give WVU a 10-3 lead.
After a two-out double from Schoenfeld, Smith singled to bring him home and make the score 11-3.
Wills grounded out to end the inning.
Reese Bassinger entered the game for WVU in the bottom of the eighth.
After a ground out from Hairston, Moutzouridis singled to right. Roellig was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with one out. Following a flyout from Contrades, Toigo doubled to right to score Moutzouridis and make the score 11-4. Bassinger struck out Smaldino to end the inning.
Mountaineers add to the lead in the ninth
Nick Anello entered the game from the ASU bullpen in the top of the ninth.
Following a Kresser groundout, Graveline and Guzman both singled. Hall drew a walk to load the bases with only one out.
Ineich grounded out but was able to score Graveline to extemnd the lead 12-4.
Kelly tacked on another run for WVU with a single to shallow left to score Guzman, extending the lead 13-4.
Zahir Barjam grounded out to end the inning.
Constanzo strikes out two to seal the 13-7 victory
JD Constanzo took the mound for WVU in the bottom of the ninth.
Sam Myers (pinch hitting for Longo) singled to left. Niclai also singled to put runners at first and third with no outs.
Matt Polk came in to pinch hit for Zavorek and blasted a two-run home run to cut the WVU lead to 13-7.
Constanzo responded by striking out both Hairston and Moutzouridis for the first two outs of the inning. Roellig grounded out to first to end the game 13-7 in favor of WVU.
