WVU lands four-star offensive tackle Kevin Brown

Brown announced his decision on “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN, with a playful nod to his new school. He commemorated the commitment by setting a couch on fire outside his home. Brown’s father, Tim Brown, played for WVU from 1999 to 2004, and also played for head coach Rich Rodriguez.

Kevin Brown plays at Harrisburg High School in Pennsylvania and is preparing to play in the state quarterfinal game in the highest classification. He is a true offensive tackle at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds and intends to play the position in college. He also gets high-level reps every day in practice. His father said that Penn State commit Messiah Mickens and Rutgers commit Elias Coke line up right across from each other in practice. He sees Division I-level talent every day, which should help him make an impact immediately in Morgantown.

Attributes

Brown is a workout warrior and could play multiple spots on the offensive line. He has quick feet and aggressive tendencies, which are a necessity as a lineman. He has room to build his frame and add mass. His father stated that he wanted him to shed some weight this season to play both sides of the ball. He missed a lot of his junior season with a foot injury, but came back late in the season. He is tough and has the mental fortitude to overcome a serious injury.

Brown has the ability for short and long pulls and can get to the second level easily. He is hungry for more reps and always brings intensity to the simplest tasks, which makes him very coachable. He has a lot of pop in his punch and does not let defenders around him in pass sets. Zone-blocking schemes suit him well. His father trained him the same way Rodriguez did during his time at WVU. He is built for a Rodriguez offense.

Final notes

Kevin Brown is a multi-year starter in the making. He has the makings of a great Mountaineer for years to come. He and his father like what WVU is building, and Kevin wants to play his role in the program’s future.

“They have a long-term plan there,” His father, Tim, said. “You see all the programs that are being built and the support that they get. West Virginia didn’t have that, and now they have it. This could be an up-and-coming thing. And Kevin really feels that.”
