WVU controlled the first half, racing to a 58-26 lead at halftime. The second half was more of the same, with the Mountaineers pouring it on to the tune of 51-14 over the final 20 minutes. This includes a 34-11 advantage in the third quarter.

Kierra Wheeler’s 23-point, eight-rebound, six-assist outing led a balanced scoring attack in which five players reached double figures. As impressive as that was, the defense was even better.

The Mountaineers held the Tigers to 36 percent shooting overall and 29 percent from 3-point range, while winning the rebounding battle 42-24.

In addition to a 56-22 edge in the paint, WVU forced a whopping 35 turnovers, which resulted in 54 points for the home team.

Georgia Tech withstands second-half push in its win against Norfolk State

After a 3-2 start, the Yellow Jackets suffered a four-game losing streak that dropped them three games below .500. However, the team ended that skid with a 72-57 victory over Norfolk State.

This game was close early, with Georgia Tech leading 20-16 after the first quarter. However, a 28-12 burst in the second quarter propelled the Yellow Jackets to a 48-28 advantage going into the break.

Norfolk State continued to battle the rest of the way, but the effort wasn’t enough to prevent Georgia Tech from rolling to a double-digit victory. The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Spartans 49-33 and scored 40 points in the paint, compared to just 20 for Norfolk State.
