WVU is undefeated through five games for the second straight season
The Mountaineers enter this matchup riding the wave of a five-game winning streak. Their latest triumph includes an 80-51 victory against Appalachian State.

The game was close early, with WVU leading by a slim 19-13 after the opening stanza. However, the Mountaineers took control of the contest, courtesy of a 46-22 scoring edge over the middle two quarters, enabling the home team to cruise to a 29-point win.
Gia Cooke was one of three starters who reached double figures. She scored a team-high 19 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field and 2-for-7 from 3-point range. Cooke also tallied four rebounds and two assists.
Kierra Wheeler contributed 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists, connecting on seven of her 10 shot attempts. Jordan Thomas added 10 points and collected four rebounds.
WVU’s defense held the Mountaineers to 41 percent shooting overall and 29 percent from the 3-point line. They also enjoyed a 38-20 edge inside the paint and converted 27 turnovers into 30 points.
McNeese State put on a defensive clinic in its win over LSU Alexandria
After suffering a 64-44 setback against Alabama on Nov. 6, the Cowgirls have won their last two games. This includes a dominant 106-33 victory against LSU Alexandria on Saturday.
During the season, we have discussed how well West Virginia plays on defense, and rightfully so. However, McNeese State showed that it can excel at that end of the floor as well.
The Cowgirls took control of the game early, racing out to a 55-23 lead at the break. And in the second half, they outscored the Generals by a whopping 51-10, including a decisive 25-1 edge in the third quarter.
McNeese State’s offense featured a balanced attack in which six players tallied double-digit scoring totals. Tyreona Sibley scored a team-high 17 points, along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Arianna Patton finished with 15 points and three steals. The Cowgirls’ defense held their opponent to 22 percent overall (9-for-40) and just 19 percent (3-for-16) from long range.
WVU vs. McNeese State: Who has the edge?
McNeese State is coming off an impressive win, but look for the Mountaineers to come out on top.
