WVU Women’s Basketball is heading back to The Greenbrier Resort this season. WVU Athletics announced the return trip Thursday, and it sets up a showdown between the Mountaineers and Northwestern for November 13. Read more: WVU Women’s Basketball returns to The Greenbrier.

Hallowed ground
WVU Women’s Basketball played its first game at the venue in White Sulphur Springs this past season, rallying with a limited roster to take down No. 15 Duke.
The Mountaineers were limited to five players for the second half of the game after an altercation with the Blue Devils. That group went on to be etched into program history as The Greenbrier Five.

Now, WVU can prepare for a Wildcats squad that is in desperate need of a fresh start. Northwestern finished the 2025-26 season with an 8-21 record, ending on an 11-game losing streak.
Matchup history
Despite the recent success of the Mountaineers and recent tribulations of the Wildcats, Northwestern leads the all-time series against WVU.

NU got the best of WVU in the only other game hosted off-campus, which also happened to be the first game of the all-time series. The 1981 contest was played in Coral Gables, Florida.
The location
Given the fact The Greenbrier is nestled in the hills of West Virginia, WVU clearly has the home-court advantage.
It is still 190 miles away from Hope Coliseum, a roughly 3.5 hour drive.
Northwestern comes down from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The trip from Evanston is around 630 miles and roughly 10 hours on the road.
The final details
Tickets go on sale for the general public on September 30. Mountaineer Athletic Club members and season ticket holders get access on September 29.
The Greenbrier Tip-off is set to take over the resort’s Colonial Hall on Friday, November 13. A tip-off time and TV details have yet to be released.
