Sydney Shaw Top Moment No. 3: WVU vs. Oklahoma State, Feb. 1, 2025

The Mountaineers had a couple of factors working against them heading into the matchup against Oklahoma State. First, their opponent had beaten them 64-57 three weeks prior. Second, WVU was coming off a stinging 77-62 loss against Arizona.

WVU produced a defensive masterpiece against its opponent, holding Oklahoma State to single digits in three of the four quarters en route to a 54-37 victory.

The Mountaineers held the Cowgirls to 21.2 percent shooting overall. Additionally, Oklahoma State connected on just two of its 23 attempts from 3-point range.

Shaw powered the Mountaineers’ offense, scoring a team-high 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field. She also knocked down three of six attempts from beyond the arc.

Sydney Shaw Top Moment No. 2: WVU at Texas Tech, Jan. 8, 2025

West Virginia was riding a two-game win streak entering this early-January contest against the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. The team’s trademark defense was on full display once again.

The Mountaineers raced out to a 16-point advantage after the first quarter and led by a sizeable 42-17 margin at the break. The Lady Raiders played much better in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to prevent WVU from coasting to a wire-to-wire 89-53 victory.

Quinerly and Shaw led the team with 21 and 20 points, respectively. However, Shaw turned in a solid performance as well. She finished with 19 points, three rebounds, and two assists on 8-of-10 shooting overall and 3-for-4 from distance.

Sydney Shaw Top Moment From 2024-25 Season: WVU vs Kansas, Feb. 5, 2025

Shaw’s best outing occurred in an early-February matchup against Kansas. As was the case against most of its opponents during the 2024-25 campaign, the Mountaineers overwhelmed their opponent early, outscoring the Jayhawks 39-19 during the game’s first 20 minutes.

West Virginia’s dominance continued, as it outscored Kansas by 13 points (37-24) in the second half to earn another double-digit victory. The team’s offense placed three players in double figures, with Shaw leading the way.

She finished with a career-high 22 points, three rebounds, and three steals on 7-of-15 shooting overall, and she posted a 40 percent conversion rate from the land of 3.

Although Shaw was not as much of a household name as Quinerly and Harrison, she consistently produced when her number was called. Based on what we witnessed last season, there’s no reason to believe that she won’t have an integral role in the team’s rotation next season.
