WVU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: TOP MOMENTS FROM 2024-25 SEASON —MAY 10, 2025—WVU’s women’s basketball team had a memorable 2024-25 campaign. Although they came up short against UNC in the second round of the NCAA tournament, this group had a lot of standout performances, especially from a defensive perspective.
The Mountaineers allowed 55.7 points per contest this past season, which placed them 15th in the nation and first in the Big 12 conference. WVU finished fifth in the conference in opponent field goal shooting (39.3 percent) and 3-point shooting (30.4 percent).

Top Moment No. 3: WVU vs Towson Tigers, Nov. 5, 2024
The Mountaineers opened their season with a home matchup against the Towson Tigers, who were without their best player. Patricia Anumgba, due to an injury. The game was close early, with WVU leading by a slim 14-13 margin through the first 10 minutes.
After that, the avalanche began. WVU outscored Towson 51-24 over the middle two quarters, extending its lead to 28 points heading into the final frame. Then, the Mountaineers started the fourth quarter with an 18-2 run on their way to an 85-41 victory.
WVU held the Tigers to 32.6 percent shooting overall and 33.3 percent from deep. The Mountaineers forced 32 turnovers, which led to 42 points, and they outscored Towson 24-12 in the paint. As a result, WVU improved to 23-3 in season openers, dating back to the 1999-00 campaign.
Top Moment No. 2: WVU vs Niagara Purple Eagles, Nov. 9, 2024
Following their impressive win in the season opener, the Mountaineers posted their second-largest blowout of the season just a few nights later against Niagara. Thanks to a 19-0 run, WVU led by a 27-9 margin after the opening stanza.
WVU was just as dominant in the second quarter, scoring the first 14 points to extend its lead to 41-9. And thanks to another 13-0 burst, the Mountaineers led 56-15 at the break. After intermission, WVU’s trademark defense continued to impose its will on the opposition.
The lead grew beyond 50 in the third quarter, aided by a 16-0 run. A 17-0 blitz in the fourth pushed the lead beyond 70, as the Mountaineers went on to win the contest by a sizable 110-41 margin. They held Niagara below 31 percent shooting overall and from beyond the arc, forced 44 turnovers that resulted in 53 points, and outscored the Purple Eagles 66-16 in the paint.
Top Moment From 2024-25 Season: WVU vs Lafayette Leopards, Nov. 22, 2024
The Mountaineers’ most dominant outings occurred against Lafayette just a few weeks into the season. Like the other games on this list, the Mountaineers made quick work of their opponent, racing out to a 22-8 lead after the first 10 minutes.
An 11-0 run to start the second quarter propelled WVU to an insurmountable 45-15 edge at the break. And in the second half, the Mountaineers outscored the Leopards 53-13 on their way to a 98-28 victory.
Lafayette shot an abysmal 26.7 percent from the field and 2-for-17 from 3-point range (11.8 percent). WVU won the rebounding battle 39-20; tallied 21 steals and produced 47 points off the Eagles’ 30 turnovers.
