The NCAA Transfer portal for Men’s and Women’s Basketball officially opened earlier this month and West Virginia is making moves to fill out its rosters for the 2026-27 season.
Both the Women’s and Men’s team saw championship success this season. The women’s team won its second Big 12 Tournament Championship in program history, while the Men won the 2026 College Basketball Crown championship. Between players running out of eligibility and choosing to transfer out of the program, head coaches Mark Kellogg and Ross Hodge have huge gaps to fill to keep championship mentality in Morgantown.
WVU’s Men’s Basketball roster moves since April 20
According to 247sports, three players were added and one was retained to the 2026-27 West Virginia Men’s Basketball roster with 12 roster spots currently being filled.
Martin Somerville – Transfer from Florida State
Florida State guard Martin Somerville announced Thursday on his personal Instagram page that he will join West Virginia for the 2026-27 season. Somerville announced his intention to transfer out of Florida State on March 31st. West Virginia will be the junior’s third team, playing his freshman season at UMASS Lowell in addition to Florida State.
This past season at Florida State, Somerville averaged 8 points per game, 3 rebounds, and had the team’s third highest three-point percentage of .337%. In his final game at Florida State, Somerville recorded 3 steals in an 80-79 loss to No.1 Duke in the ACC Tournament.
At UMASS Lowell, Somerville was named the 2025 America East Rookie of the Year. He was also named to the 2025 America East All-Rookie Team and was the conference’s rookie of the week a record 11 times. He averaged 13.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and a team leading 3.6 assists per game.
Evans Barning Jr. – Returning
Forward Evans Barning Jr. agency, SHA Sports, announced Thursday that he was returning to the Mountaineers this upcoming season despite beliefs he intended to transfer out of the program. Barning has shared multiple posts to his personal Instagram account, including SHA Sports post, seemingly confirming he will remain a Mountaineer.
The Ontario, Canada native redshirted his true freshman season and has not yet made his collegiate debut. Barning averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in his senior season at Archbishop Carrol High (Washington, D.C.) and played AAU basketball for Team Durant in the Nike EYLB circuit.
Keonte Greybear – Committed
Four-star recruit Keonte Greybear announced Thursday on his personal Instagram page that he has committed to West Virginia. Greybear plays the guard position and chose to play for West Virginia over other offers from his home state of Texas at Houston, Texas A&M and Texas Tech as well as Oklahoma State and Kansas.
A native of Lewisville, Greybear achieved his four-star status playing his senior high school season at iSchool of Lewisville. Greybear would frequently score a high number of points, reaching 43 points in a double overtime victory over Winston Salem Chistian in February.
Amadou Seini – Committed
High school recruit Amadou Seini has committed to West Virginia, according to several shared posts on his personal Instagram. The 7’1” center who is originally from Cameroon chose West Virginia over an offer from Creighton.
Seini is now the third member of Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale, Arizona) to sign with West Virginia, the others being previously reported five-star recruit Miles Sadler and four-star recruit Aliou Dioum. Bella Vista Prep won The Chipotle Nationals crowning them the Super 25 national champions over Montverde Academy.

WVU Women’s Basketball roster moves since April 20
According to 247sports, three players have been added to the 2026-27 West Virginia Women’s Basketball roster and one has entered the transfer portal with nine roster spots currently filled.
Skylar Forbes – Transfer from Marquette
WVU Sports reported Monday that Marquette forward Skylar Forbes signed to West Virginia for the 2026-27 season. Reports indicate she entered the portal on April 6.
The Ontario, Canada native spent three seasons at Marquette, named to the All-Big East team in 2025 and 2026. This past season was her junior season, and she led the team in scoring (15.5 PPG) and blocks (50).
Forbes also has experience at the national level, playing for Team Canada at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series in Vienna.
Nylah Wilson – Transfer from Pitt
WVU Sports reported Tuesday that Pitt guard Nylah Wilson was signed to West Virginia for the 2026-27 season. Her intent to enter the transfer portal was reported on March 25.
The Chester, Virginia native only played her freshman season at Pitt. Wilson competed in six contests averaging 4.2 points per game, 4 assists and 3 steals. She was a five-star recruit out of high school.
Kennedy Harris – Transfer from George Mason
WVU Sports reported Wednesday that George Mason guard Kennedy Harris signed to West Virginia for the 2026-27 season. Her intent to enter the transfer portal was reported on March 25.
The Hampton, Virginia native spent three seasons at George Mason, named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and Atlantic 10 Championship All-Tournament Team this past season. She was also named to the 2025 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team and the 2024 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team. This past season she scored a team-high 57 three-point shots and co-led the team in assists (76) and steals (71). Harris and George Mason won the Atlantic-10 Championship in 2025.

Riley Makalusky – Entered Portal on April 20
Forward Riley Makalusky has entered the transfer portal according to the personal Instagram account of On3 reporter Talia Goodman. In one season as a Mountaineer, she had a three-point percentage of .432%, averaged 4.7 points per game, and recorded 15 assists.
Prior to West Virginia, the Fishers, Indiana native played two seasons at Butler. She touts 2024 Big East All-Freshman Team honors.

What’s next
Both the 2026 Men’s and Women’s transfer portal windows have closed, meaning that players cannot enter their name if they have not already. Players currently in the portal can still commit to a new program.
The West Virginia Men’s team still has three open roster spots and the Women’s team has six. Expect updates from West Virginia Sports Nation as both teams continue to add players to the roster.
