Former WVU guard arrested in connection with alleged fraud scheme

UPDATE 11:55 a.m. // July 5, 2026

Kerr Kriisa is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center in Lexington, Kentucky, according to WKYT-TV. The center also confirmed that Kriisa’s arrest happened on the evening of Friday, July 3. There is still no word on official charges due to it being a federal case. His extradition back to West Virginia has not yet been confirmed, but is expected in the coming week for hearing.

Former WVU Men’s Basketball guard Kerr Kriisa has reportedly been arrested in connection with an alleged multimillion-dollar fraud investigation tied to his time with the Mountaineers. Read more: Former WVU guard arrested in connection with alleged fraud scheme.

According to a report from Kentucky Sports Radio, the 25-year-old Estonian native is expected to be extradited to West Virginia and has a court hearing scheduled for next week.

The outlet reported the case involves an alleged multimillion-dollar fraud scheme but did not disclose additional details regarding the accusations.

Kriisa’s time at West Virginia

Kriisa joined West Virginia ahead of the 2023-24 season after transferring from Arizona.

He started all 23 games he appeared in for the Mountaineers, averaging 11.0 points, 4.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game before a hand injury prematurely ended his season.

After leaving Morgantown, Kriisa transferred to Kentucky but appeared in only nine games before another season-ending injury.

He concluded his collegiate career at fellow Big 12 school Cincinnati. There, he averaged 5.8 points and 3.0 assists over 19 appearances during the 2025-26 season.

Most recently, Kriisa was announced as a participant for La Familia, Kentucky’s alumni team competing in The Basketball Tournament.

As of publication, no charging documents or additional court records detailing the allegations had been publicly released. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
