WVU Football Head Coach Rich Rodriguez is proving there is still value in recruiting from the high school ranks. Read more: Rich Rodriguez builds for future with top-30 2027 recruiting class.
Even with the 2026 season drawing closer, Rodriguez and his staff have been busy building the roster for the future. Their work seems to be paying off, because WVU currently boasts the No. 28-ranked recruiting class for 2027, according to 247Sports.
It’s still early, but with 20 commits already, West Virginia is on the fast track to having an elite recruiting class. Here are some of the marquee players Rodriguez has been able to commit to WVU.

Multiple four-stars
The first player that is certainly worth mentioning is interior offensive lineman Ethan Lawson. With a current four-star ranking on 247Sports, Lawson committed to WVU on June 2.
Lawson, a Duffield, Virginia native, stands an impressive 6-foot-6 and weighs 310 pounds. Those are very good measurables considering he won’t step foot on WVU’s campus for another year.
Lawson is also a multi-sport athlete as he competes in the shot put and the discus throw in track and field. He recently posted a 52-3 shot put rep and a 121-11 discus throw as a junior, according to MileSplit.
The second four-star recruit that Rodriguez has been able to snag for 2027 is wide receiver Carter Bonner. 247Sports ranks the St. Frances Academy wide receiver as the No. 7 player in Maryland.
On 247Sports, he’s listed as a wide receiver, but on Bonner’s X page, he has himself listed as a cornerback as well. With either position he plays at the next level, Bonner should be able to show off his pure athleticism no matter what.
Also on Bonner’s X page, he has a 40-yard dash time listed at 4.46. Whether that’s 100% accurate or not, it proves that the 6-foot-3, 200-pound WR/CB is incredibly athletic for his age.
The third four-star that is committed to the Mountaineers is defensive edge, Chris Wilson. He recently made his commitment official on June 11.
Wilson, a Yorktown, Indiana native, stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 235 pounds. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 26 edge prospect in the nation and the No. 4 overall recruit in the 2027 class.
With him and Lawson adding to WVU’s trenches, it’s clear that Rodriguez and his coaching staff are making a clear emphasis to beef up that area on both sides of the field.
A plethora of three-stars
Aside from the four-stars, WVU has been able to add a number of quality three-star recruits to the 2027 class as well. Three of them have come in the month of June as well.
Running back Khamoni Williams, out of Memphis, Tennessee, made his commitment official on June 12. He’s listed as the No. 23 running back in the country.
Cornerback Zachary Gleason Jr. signed with the Mountaineers on June 11. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native is a top-20 overall player in the state for his class.

Wide receiver Brock Burrus also signed his letter of intent to West Virginia on June 11. Out of Marietta, Georgia, the 6–foot-5 receiver brings great size to the future of WVU’s receiving group.
Carter Davis, a receiver out of Gulf Shores, Alabama, also committed to the Mountaineers in June, announcing his decision on June 8.
Offensive lineman Jajuan Graham rounds out the recent signings for West Virginia after he committed on June 14. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, Graham has not been evaluated yet on 247Sports, but he holds a three-star ranking according to On3.
