St. John’s transfer Joson Sanon announced on his personal social media account Sunday that he had committed to West Virginia. The 6’5 guard joins the Mountaineers with two years of eligibility remaining.

Prior to West Virginia

Sanon received Preseason Third Team All-Big East honors at the beginning of the 2025-26 season. He started in 14 of 37 games, averaging 7.9 points per game and recording 21 steals and six blocks. St John’s went on to win the Big East Tournament and make it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, falling 80-75 against Duke.

Sanon is a native of Fall River, Massachusetts, and is of Haitian descent. He had an impressive resume following his senior year at Vermont Academy, winning a New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) AAA Championship and NEPSAC-AAA Player of the Year honors. The accolades made him a five-star and consensus top-25 recruit.

Out of high school, Sanon chose to sign with Arizona State. He made 27 appearances and 9 starts in his freshman season, averaging 11.9 points per game, 3.4 rebounds and one assist. Initially, Sanon entered the NBA draft, but withdrew to play his sophomore season at St. John’s.

Other West Virginia offseason moves

Sanon joins the Mountaineers as the second player with five-star value. Incoming freshman guard Miles Sadler is the other five-star recruit.
