MORGANTOWN, W.VA. — WV Sports Nation is proud to announce our on-site coverage of the Duke’s Mayo Classic between WVU (2-0) and No. 25 Virginia (2-0). Staff writer John Boggess is heading to the Queen City of the South, Charlotte, to cover the matchup between the Mountaineers and Cavaliers. Saturday marks an early proving point for the undefeated Mountaineers, as they face their toughest opponent yet. With wins over a feisty Coastal Carolina squad and FCS opponent UT Martin, WVU turns to its first true challenge.
On-site coverage
As mentioned, John Boggess will be our eyes and ears at Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers.
“WVU and NFL Football were a core part of my sports fandom when I was younger,” Boggess said. “The opportunity to cover the Mountaineers at an NFL Stadium is incredible. I’m super excited to get to do so from the press box and beyond, sharing my experience with our audience.”
Before getting to the stadium, John will be searching for fans on both sides of the West Virginia/Virginia debate. He will bring the best bites to the website to give you a taste of the atmosphere in Charlotte. Once inside, John is set to bring you pregame coverage, setting the scene for what is shaping up to be an entertaining game.
“UVA is WVU’s biggest test before conference play begins,” Boggess said. “Overall, WVU has been solid offensively, especially with running back Cam Cook. Virginia has been good at stopping the rush, but Cook may be one of the roughest rushers it faces this season. The Mountaineers will need to match the Cavaliers on defense if they want to upset the No. 25 team in the country.”
