Muncie Police were called just before 3 a.m. to the 1400 block of E. Cromer Avenue. Wilson was found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Yorktown High School Principal Stacey Brewer announced Wilson’s death Monday in a message to students and parents.

“Chris was a valued member of our school, our football team, and our community,” Brewer said.

Brewer also said there is no threat to Yorktown students or the school. Counselors will be available when students return, with the school encouraging students and families to reach out for support.

Wilson was one of the top recruits in Indiana

Wilson was one of the top high school football players in Indiana and had committed to West Virginia in June.

The 6’5, 235-pound defensive end was rated as a four-star prospect and was ranked No. 153 nationally by Rivals. He also had offers from Auburn, Missouri, Ole Miss, Indiana, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Iowa State, Kansas, Purdue, and Vanderbilt.

West Virginia landed his commitment June 11.

Wilson had put together a strong junior season at Yorktown, finishing with 25 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, and 11 quarterback hurries. He also had an interception and four pass breakups.

Through five games of his senior season, Wilson had recorded 12 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and four quarterback hurries.

Wilson put together a strong junior season

One of his bigger plays came last season against Muncie Central.

Wilson intercepted a pass late in the game after the ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage, helping Yorktown hold on for a 15-12 win.

That was the type of production that helped make Wilson such an attractive recruit.

He had the size to play on the edge at the next level and was continuing to develop as a pass rusher. West Virginia saw enough in him to make him one of the more important pieces of its 2027 recruiting class.

Wilson was expected to join WVU in 2027

Wilson was expected to finish his senior season at Yorktown before eventually heading to Morgantown.

Instead, his family, teammates, and community are now dealing with his death.

West Virginia had expected Wilson to be part of its future. More importantly, Yorktown had a senior, teammate and friend who was supposed to have many more years ahead of him.

The investigation into Wilson’s death remains ongoing.
