The Mountaineers join a field of eight other teams, including host team Rutgers, in the 54-hole stroke event.

Alongside WVU and Rutgers, the rest of the field consists of Kansas, Nebraska, Little Rock, Marquette, Michigan State, Purdue, and South Florida.
How the tournament works
The Harbor Cup will consist of teams of five players. Those with the four best scores count towards the team’s total in each round.
For West Virginia, which has a roster of 10 players, including three freshmen, it could be an opportunity for some new faces to showcase their abilities at the beginning of the season. However, the event is not open to spectators throughout the three-day tournament.
This event also marks the first time Bayonne Golf Club has hosted an event of this magnitude. Rutgers’ head coach Rob Shutte believes it will be a great opportunity to put the course and his program on display.
“This is the first time Bayonne has done something like this, and it’s exciting for the golf course to showcase itself to some of the best amateur players in college golf,” Shutte said. “For Rutgers to show the connection between the New York City skyline and everything that comes with being in this metropolitan area, along with golf, is really unique. Riding underneath the Statue of Liberty every morning and staying right next to the 9/11 Memorial — these are experiences most of these players have never had before. It really showcases Rutgers and the connection to New York.”
Shutte is referencing the unique opportunity for all the players and staff of each team who will be ferried across the New York Harbor from Lower Manhattan directly to the course.
Tournament schedule
Here is the full breakdown of the schedule for the tournament.
- Sunday, August 30: Teams undergo a shotgun practice round beginning at 11 a.m.
- Monday, August 31: Rounds 1 and 2 with 36 holes of continuous play. Tee times will run between 7:45-9:15 a.m. off the first and 10th tees.
- Tuesday, September 1: Final round consisting of 18 holes with tee times running between 8:15-9:45 a.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. and team departures.
The Mountaineers aim to start this season off with another first place finish. They finished with three this past season, including the 2025 season opener.
