Overview
While sports such as women’s basketball and cross country have not yet released schedules for the upcoming season, other programs are in full swing. Before moving forward, make note of this: exhibitions and post-season tournaments are not counted in these findings.
The Mountaineers have yet to release the conference slate for men’s basketball, but the non-conference schedule goes through the end of the semester.
Now that the parameters have been set, let’s dive into the fall sports schedule. More specifically, events that will take place in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Football
After having an outlier year in 2024, one that featured seven home games instead of six, the Mountaineers are back to the status quo. Fans will have six opportunities to see the football team in action at Milan Puskar Stadium.
Home games bookend the regular season. WVU kicks off against Robert Morris on August 30th and wraps up the season on November 29th by playing host to Texas Tech.
Mountaineer football is the lifeblood of West Virginia’s campus in the fall, and clearly holds top billing in town.
Men’s Basketball
The regular season non-conference slate runs between November 4th and December 22nd. Luckily for West Virginia, nine of the 13 non-conference games will take place within the confines of the WVU Coliseum.
The non-conference slate was kind to the Mountaineers in the 2024-25 season, as they went 8-2 against teams outside the Big 12. The team went 7-0 at home during that stretch, capitalizing on the raucous Coliseum crowd.
Game one of the Ross Hodge era of WVU men’s hoops is set for November 4th when Mount St. Mary’s comes to town.

Men’s Soccer
The reigning Sun Belt champions return to the pitch for regular-season action on August 21st. WVU Men’s Soccer Head Coach Dan Stratford returns for his sixth season at the helm.
The Mountaineers will play 10 of their 17 regular-season matches at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown. West Virginia has not lost a home match since September 9th, 2022.
The season starts at home against Manhattan at 4 p.m. on August 21st, the first match of a men’s/women’s doubleheader. The penultimate match of the season will be a wild one. The in-state rivalry against Marshall will conclude the home portion of the regular season on Halloween night.
Women’s Soccer
The women’s soccer team kicked off the fall semester on August 14th against #15 Virginia. That match won’t count since it already took place.
Nine of the 17 remaining games on the regular-season schedule will be played at the aforementioned Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Despite the loss at home on Thursday, the Mountaineers are usually hard to beat in Morgantown. WVU women’s soccer finished 8-1-1 at home in 2024.
The next match on the schedule is the second part of the August 21st doubleheader. The ladies will take on Akron at 7 p.m., following the men’s match against Manhattan.
Volleyball
Sticking to the women’s side of the athletic department, volleyball is back in action on August 29th. The Mountaineers will play their home opener on September 4th, as the North Dakota Fighting Hawks enter the WVU Coliseum.
Despite the 30-game regular season, West Virginia only gets 12 games at home in 2025. The imbalance is caused by the non-conference tournaments early in the season.
Tennis
The tennis team will participate in five tournaments this semester, with one of the events taking place in Morgantown. The Martha Thorn Pink Invitational will take place at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts, October 3-5.
Other tournaments include the Bedford Cup, Thunder in the Mountains, Wahoowa Invitational, and ITA Regionals.
Rifle
The NCAA champions are back to defend their title, beginning on October 4th at Memphis. While the season runs deep into spring, the co-ed rifle team will participate in 10 matches this semester.
Four of the 10 will take place at the WVU Rifle Range, a facility where the Mountaineers are simply unbeatable. WVU has won 13 straight matches in Morgantown, dating back to November 2022. The first home match for the champs this season is set for November 1st against Mount Aloysius.
Golf
The men’s golf team is slated to participate in 12 tournaments throughout the fall, with WVU playing host for two of them. The Mountaineers are hosts for the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational (Farmington, PA) and the Mountaineer Invitational (Bridgeport, WV).

In short, it’s a busy semester for the West Virginia Mountaineers. More specifically, Mountaineer fans have plenty of opportunities to see WVU athletic programs in action at home between now and December 22nd.
With 51 scheduled events in the university city ahead and more to be added, the fall should be a tremendous time. For those in other areas of Mountaineer Nation, there are over 50 other chances to see WVU teams outside of Morgantown.
