The Cubs used the 277th pick in the draft on the 6’2, 175-pound RHP.

Joining a historic organization

The North Carolina native still has eligibility at the collegiate level, transferring to Arizona State during the spring portal window in June. While he likely will not see the Windy City proper just yet, he joins an organization with passionate fans and more than a century of history. One day, he could be taking the mound at the legendary Wrigley Field.

In the meantime, presuming he stays in the organization, there are a few places Meyer could cut his teeth. Listed are the affiliate teams for Chicago;

  • Iowa Cubs (Triple-A)
  • Knoxville Smokies (Double-A)
  • South Bend Cubs (High-A)
  • Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Single-A)

Most notably, he would join the likes of past Mountaineers such as Paul Popovich, Darius Hill, and Jedd Gyorko who have spent time in the Cubs organization.

Summer 2026

Meyer has spent time with two squads this summer, in both the MLB Draft League and the Cape Cod Baseball League. The soon-to-be ASU Sun Devil started the summer with three starts for the State College Spikes in the MLB Draft League. Meyer posted a 6.43 ERA with no wins or losses. He allowed five runs on six hits in seven innings, striking out 13 and walking eight.

Following the Draft League mid-season roster swaps, Meyer jumped north to join the Chatham Anglers. He has some familiar faces around him there, which you can read more about in staff writer John Boggess’ Around The Farm series.

The former Mountaineer is 0-2 with the Anglers in three appearances. Each outing has come in relief.

His ERA has ballooned to 13.50, but only accounts for four innings of work. Meyer struck out four and walked five in those appearances.

Future potential

Despite how things panned out between the righty and WVU, a lot of people have a lot of love for Meyer. He has plenty of potential to grow in an organization who knows how to pick up talent.

Until then, it is business as usual for the boys of summer.
