The event took place in Anniston, Alabama, where competitions were held from June 9-17. There were a number of Mountaineer shooters that competed, but it was Lake who stole the show.
Lake’s Masterful Week
Lake, a junior, entered the events already with a bronze medal and seven top-three finishes at national and international competitions. After his week in the Yellowhammer State, he’s going to have to make a little more room in his medal rack.
He started his week competing in the 50-meter three-position event in both the junior and open divisions on June 11. After garnering the top score in the second relay (590), Lake moved on to both finals.
That is when he would see himself standing at the top with gold medals in both divisions. He received a 458.2 in the open and a 455.3 in the junior.

After a masterful showing in the three-position events, Lake turned his attention to the 10-meter air rifle event on June 14. Similar to earlier in the week, Lake competed in the junior and open divisions.
After a top score of 250.4 in the junior division, Lake earned a third gold medal to his collection. Unfortunately, he couldn’t stay at the top any longer, earning a silver medal in the open division with a 251.5.
All things considered, Lake managed to have another great showing at a national level; however, he was not the only Mountaineer who represented the blue and gold with high honors.
Other WVU Representatives
There were four other Mountaineers that competed in the events: Camryn Camp, Ashlyn Blake, Maximus Duncan and Jack Ogorreuc. All of them also competed in the 10-meter air rifle and the 50-meter three-position.
Camp managed to qualify in the open and junior divisions in the three-position event. She secured seventh-place finishes in both finals. In the air rifle event, she finished in 17th place in the relays with a mark of 1243.9.
Blake also found herself in the three-position junior final after scoring a 1153 in the relays. She went on to earn a silver medal in the final with a 448.9 mark, just 0.1 off earning the illustrious gold medal. She also qualified for the junior final in the air rifle, earning an eighth-place finish with a 121.7 mark.

Duncan competed in the open division for the three-position event. While he didn’t qualify for the finals, he posted a score of 1134 to finish in 13th place in the relay. Duncan would, however, qualify for the air rifle final in the open division. He finished in seventh place with a final score of 143.1.
Incoming freshman Ogorreuc once again showcased his rising potential before even setting foot on WVU’s campus. After a 1140 in the relays, he qualified for the junior final in the three-position event. He finished in seventh place, but hit the second-best mark in the U18 division.
He also qualified for the junior final in the air rifle, where he earned another seventh-place finish. This time, he finished on top in the U18 division.
Similarly to last season, the Mountaineers’ 2025-26 season should expect to start in early October. You will be able to watch Lake and the rest of the representatives once again, as all are expected to return to WVU.
