West Virginia women’s basketball is adding another member of the Kellogg family. Kayli Kellogg announced her commitment to WVU on Thursday. Of course, her father is head coach Mark Kellogg, so this may not be a big surprise to many familiar with the program. The Morgantown high school senior received multiple Division I offers but chose to stay home with her father. Read more: Kayli Kellogg announces commitment to West Virginia.
Overcoming adversity
Kellogg earned first-team all-state honors in Class AAAA as a freshman and sophomore, and helped lead the Mohigans to back-to-back state runner-up finishes in 2024 and 2025. She averaged 21.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 3.8 steals per game as a sophomore. Her junior season did not happen, however, after suffering a torn ACL. She is expected to return for her senior season in 2026-27.

Kellogg is currently the 89th-ranked player in the nation according to Prep Girls Hoops. She received seven Division I offers from schools other than WVU. Those schools include Akron, Mercyhurst (PA), Florida Gulf Coast, Stephen F. Austin, UMBC, Lindenwood (MO), and Robert Morris. Stephen F. Austin stands out because Mark Kellogg coached there before joining West Virginia.
NIL history
Kellogg made history earlier in 2026 by signing an NIL agreement with Vision Homes. She is one of the first athletes in West Virginia to sign an NIL contract. She became a community ambassador for Vision Homes, which also sponsors the site.
“We are so proud of Kayli and excited for her to be a Mountaineer, and to have the opportunity to play for a great coach – who happens to be her dad,” Rocky Simmons said. “Kayli is a great person, hardworking, and super talented. We are so happy for her and her family, and for WVU. Let’s go!”

This came after West Virginia and the WVSSAC became the 44th state to implement a name, image, and likeness policy. The State Board of Education approved it. She set the tone for high school athletes in the state and empowered them to seek deals, no matter how big or small.
A family that knows the sacrifice
Being a coach’s kid has not always been easy. Mark Kellogg has spoken openly about the difficulty of missing his daughter’s and son’s games while building the program at WVU.
“Yeah, it’s brutal if you want the honest truth, like that hurt my dad heartstrings today,” Kellogg said in 2024. “I get one crack to kind of raise my kids and be there for them, and I spend most of my time with everybody else’s kids.”
He has spoken about the unique situation of recruiting his own daughter. He has to balance being a college basketball coach and being her father. That will likely continue, but they remain on the journey together in Morgantown.
