Key Moments for the Mountaineers

The Mountaineers dominated with a total score of 21-under par, carding rounds of 291, 280, and a blazing 272 for an aggregate of 843.
West Virginia surged ahead by going a remarkable 24-under across the final 36 holes, outpacing a competitive field of 17 teams. UC San Diego trailed in second at 10-under, while Augusta secured third at 7-under.
This triumph represents WVU’s third title in just six outings this autumn.
Earlier wins included the Island Resort Collegiate in Michigan on Sept. 1 and the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational on September 30, showcasing the team’s consistent excellence.

Individual prowess

Kaleb Wilson led the charge for West Virginia on the individual leaderboard, securing third place at 8-under with scores of 73, 67, and 68 totaling 208.
Hot on his heels was Nick Turowski in fifth at 7-under. Turowski hung in there, thanks to rounds of 76, 70, and a sensational 63 that added up to 209.
Turowski’s 63 now stands tied for the second-lowest single-round score in program history. Wilson has been a model of reliability, earning Top 15 placements in every one of the six fall events.
Turowski, meanwhile, notched his fourth top-five finish of the season. Other standout performances included Jack Michael, who tied for 14th at 1-under via steady rounds of 71, 72, and 72 for 215.
Ryan Leach tied for 17th at even par with 72, 71, and 73 summing to 216. Westy McCabe landed in a tie for 29th at 3-over, posting 75, 75, and 69 for 219.
Harrison Thompson tied for 23rd individually. He posted at 1-over with 73, 75, and 69 totaling 217.
The Mountaineers wrapped up their fall campaign with an impressive 71-14-0 record. This mark gives WVU more victories than any other Division I men’s golf program this season. The team’s blend of depth, precision, and clutch play under pressure has set a high bar.

Covich’s comments On WVU’s victory

“I’m very happy for the guys, proud of their preparation and the way they competed this week.”

Coach Covich mentioned the team dragging out of the gate, but ultimately finding a way to win.

“We got off to a slow start in round one, but they never gave up, kept battling and then played some phenomenal golf the last few rounds.” Covich said. “This was a special team win and a great way to end the fall season.”

Up next for the Mountaineers

Looking ahead, WVU will kick off the spring slate at the Battle at Briar’s Creek. The competition is scheduled for Feb. 2-3 in Johns Island, South Carolina. With momentum from a stellar fall, the team aims to carry that fire into the new year and chase even greater heights.
