Exhibition
Before the regular season begins, Mountaineer fans can get their first look at the 2025-26 squad in an exhibition game against Wheeling on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the WVU Coliseum.
Regular Season Begins
The season tips off inside the WVU Coliseum on Tuesday, Nov. 4, when the Mountaineers welcome Mount St. Mary’s. WVU owns a perfect 6-0 record against the Mount, with every game played in Morgantown.
Campbell visits the Coliseum for the first-ever meeting between the programs on Thursday, Nov. 6. WVU’s busy opening week concludes on Sunday, Nov. 9, against Lehigh. The Mountaineers lead the series 5-0, with the last meeting coming in 2018.

One of the season’s most anticipated nights comes on Thursday, Nov. 13, when the Backyard Brawl returns to Morgantown. Pitt dominated the most recent matchup November 15, 2025, 86-62. West Virginia, however, is in lead of the all-time series 101-90. West Virginia most recently defeated Pitt 81-56 November 11, 2022.
Next, West Virginia will host Lafayette, a matchup last seen in 2014 when WVU rolled to an 83-56 win. This will be only their second meeting ever.
Hitting the Road
From there, WVU heads south to Charleston, South Carolina, for the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic on Nov. 21 and 23. The Mountaineers open the tournament against Clemson, then face either Georgia or Xavier in their second game. It will mark WVU’s second appearance in the event.
Back Home
Back in Morgantown on Sunday, Nov. 30, WVU hosts Mercyhurst for the second consecutive year. Last season’s meeting ended in a 67-46 Mountaineer victory. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, Coppin State visits for the fourth all-time meeting—WVU has taken all three previous matchups.
Return to the Capital City
The Mountaineers then make their first trip to Charleston, West Virginia, since 2016, taking on Wake Forest at the Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 6. It’s the start of a two-year neutral-site series, with the rematch set for Greensboro, N.C., next season. WVU leads the all-time series 7-3, including a legendary 111-105 double-overtime win in the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
Final Stretch of Non-conference
A first-time opponent comes to the Coliseum on Tuesday, Dec. 9, as Little Rock makes its Morgantown debut. Four days later, WVU heads to Cleveland for a neutral-site battle with Ohio State in the Cleveland Hoops Showdown (Saturday, Dec. 13).
The two teams have history in Cleveland. WVU stunned No. 2 Ohio State there in 2019 before dropping a close overtime contest in 2023. Ohio State is only team of West Virginia’s non-conference foes with an all-time winning record over the Mountaineers.
Nonconference play wraps up on Monday, Dec. 22, with Mississippi Valley State visiting Morgantown. WVU is 2-0 all-time against the Delta Devils, with the last matchup in 2016.
For the most part West Virginia has seen success over their non-conference opponents, but time will tell if it’s the same case in the Ross Hodge era.
