West Virginia Golf finishes 6th at The Gopher Invitational

WVU Golf wrapped up play Monday at The Gopher Invitational with a sixth-place finish in Independence, Minnesota. Read more: West Virginia Golf finishes 6th at The Gopher Invitational.

The three-round tournament hosted by Minnesota showcased a total of 15 teams. The Mountaineers tied with Marquette for a final score of +14. Georgia finished with a commanding first-place finish with a -9 finish. 

Nicholas Turowski led the way for the Mountaineers with a team-high -2 overall finish. 

Sunday (Round 2)

The second round of the tournament was a strong outing for WVU across the board. Junior Aidan Dortch shot an impressive -2. He and sophomore Jack Michael finished the day tied for 15th place overall. 

Freshman Hogan Blais also had a strong first two days of the tournament. In his first event as a Mountaineer, Blais wrapped up Round 2 with a total score of +3.

Also on Sunday, Ryan Leach was slotted at 37th overall after a +5 over the first two days. Turowski had a slow start to the tournament with a +4 going into the final round on Monday. 

Overall, West Virginia had three golfers in the top-20 after the first two rounds. Before the final round, the Mountaineers were tied for fourth overall. 

Monday (Round 3)

WVU kept up its strong performance with three golfers finishing in the top 25 of the tournament. 

Turowski bounced back in a big way and scored a 69 to finish in 13th place. Dortch finished in 19th place with a final score of +2 for the weekend. Blais also made an appearance in the top 25 with a final score of +4 to finish tied for 21st place. 

Michael ended the tournament tied for 36th at +8, while his sophomore counterpart Brody Burgess competed as an individual and shot a +20. 

As a team, the Mountaineers combined for a score of 866. Their best day came Sunday with a score of 287.
