WVU Golf caps amazing season with impressive NCAA Regional performance

WVU Golf finished -5 for the tournament after three rounds of play at The Gallery Golf Club in Marana, Arizona. The team finished eighth at the NCAA Marana Regional and did not make the cut. The team shot -5 in the final round, led by Nicholas Turowski, who shot -5. It was the Mountaineers’ lowest score in an NCAA event and a fitting way to end a record-setting season. Third round finish

Turowski finished with a 67 in the final round, and he finished tied for 18th in the tournament. His final round score was the second lowest score recorded by a Mountaineer in an NCAA event. He had a bogey-free round on his way to a top-20 finish. Senior Kaleb Wilson finished with a score of -2 to finish tied for 29th. He shot a 68 in the final round, his final round as a Mountaineer. He birdied four of his final five holes to cap off an amazing career.

Senior Westy McCabe shot a 71 (-1) in the final round to finish -1 for the tournament. That earned him a tie for 31st. Ryan Leach shot 73 in the final round and finished tied for 61st at +10 overall. Jack Michael shot +7 in the final round and also finished +10 for the tournament.

Record-setting season

WVU set school records by finishing -5 in an NCAA Regional. It was the lowest tournament score in WVU history. The final round -6 was the lowest 18-hole score ever for WVU in an NCAA event. It was the second NCAA Regional appearance in the last three years, and they finished better than their seed in each.

West Virginia won three tournaments this season for the first time in school history. Leach and Turowski tied for the low individual 18-hole score this season at 63. Leach shot his in the Island Resort Collegiate, and Turowski shot his in Peral at Kalauao Invitational. WVU won the Island Resort Collegiate, and Leach placed first with a score of 199, the low individual 54-hole score of the season.

The team’s second win came at Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational. Wilson shot a 205 54-hole score to finish tied for first place. The third victory came at Pearl at Kalauao Invitational. The team shot a 291-280-272=843. Wilson finished tied for third for the best individual score of the tournament. WVU tied for second place in the Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club. The Mountaineers also placed third as a team in three tournaments: the Gopher Invitational, the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, and the Schenkel Invitational.
