WVU Mountaineers week in review: Tennis Senior Day and Golf action

West Virginia Tennis honored its seniors following the last match of the 2026 regular season on Sunday. WVU Golf is hosting the Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club, which is free and open to the public on Monday and Tuesday. Golf

WVU Golf is in action this week at its home course in Bridgeport, WV. They are hosting the Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club beginning on Monday, April 13, 2026. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. No. 61 WVU and 18 other teams are teeing off, including the reigning NCAA National Champions, and No. 6 Oklahoma State.

The other teams in the field are No. 5 Arkansas, No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 36 Clemson, No. 38 TCU, No. 94 Baylor, No. 96 Xavier, James Madison, Ball State, VCU, UNC Greensboro, George Mason, Western Kentucky, William & Mary, Navy, Villanova, Appalachian State, and Saint Francis.

Tennis

WVU Tennis (7-13, 1-12 Big 12) was in action in Morgantown twice last week. They hosted No. 36 Houston on Friday, April 10, at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts. They lost 4-0 to the Cougars. Julie Bousseau and Audrey Moutama were victorious on court one against Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli, 6-4, but dropped the other two matches. Elizaveta Morozova and Petja Drame defeated Lucia Tognoni and Laura Villanueva Morillo, 6-4. Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina defeated Lyla Byers and Sosanna Malaak, 6-0, as Houston clinched the doubles points.

Houston won three singles matches, and three went unfinished as Houston rolled to victory. Sepa beat Byers, 6-4, 6-3, and Drame beat Tognoni, 6-3, 6-3. Schouten defeated Malaak, 6-2, 6-4, to clinch the victory.

The Mountaineers faced UCF on Sunday, April 12, in the last regular-season match of 2026. It was Senior Day, and West Virginia honored its seniors following the match. The Mountaineers lost to the Knights, 4-2.

UCF took the doubles point with two victories, and one went unfinished. WVU battled back in singles play, but could not do enough to win the match. Byers defeated Vladislava Andreevskaya, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Malaak defeated Lauren Seye, 6-1, 6-3, in a straight-set victory. WVU lost three singles matches, all in straight sets, as UCF coasted to a victory.

Track & Field

WVU Track & Field took a trek north to Lewisburg, PA, for the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell. Alyssa Sauro took home third place in the invitational 5,000 meters with a time of 16:20.18. Tecla Lokrale finished seventh (16:28.19), Chiara Judis finished 12th (16:36.54).

Mary Delaney finished in 14th in the invitational 1,500 meters with a time of 4.28.90. Aislinn Frazer finished 32nd, and Eva Rinker finished 71st. Eva Craigie finished in fifth place in the long jump with a jump of 5.71 meters. The next event is the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California. It is a three-day event beginning on Thursday, April 16.
