American Volleyball Coaches Association
The American Volleyball Coaches Association presents the award. It’s quite the impressive feat for the Mountaineers. To successfully earn the AVCA Team Academic Award, the program must maintain a year-long grade point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. This year was record-breaking, as 1,450 teams across the country received the award.
WVU volleyball was one of these standout programs. It is a reflection of the growing importance of student-athlete success in the classroom. This recognition echoes a year of many academic honors earned by the student-athletes.
Lauren Bodily, Quincey Coyle, Lauren DeLo, Hailey Green, Kristen McBride, and Maddy McGath earned a spot on the Fall Academic All-Big 12 Team. DeLo and Green were also named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.

Thoughts from Head Coach Jen Greeny
Head Coach Jen Greeny emphasized the program’s commitment to education as well as athletic performance as one of their core values.
“As a staff, we stress the importance of education and truly believe in training lifelong learners. We have found a strong correlation between success in the classroom and the court. Athletic careers end, but life doesn’t so it’s vital that our student-athletes have a solid foundation post volleyball.”
The AVCA Award has been given annually since the 1992-93 season and is a highly respected honor in collegiate volleyball. As Coach Jen stated, this award is solely academic. It shows that the Mountaineers are dedicated to themselves as well as their sport. Life goes beyond volleyball, and I think it is truly fantastic that Coach Jen ensures her players are set up for success.
WVU’s achievement is reflective of accountability and hard work. These athletes are required to juggle demanding travel schedules, tough training days, and upkeep with academics. This achievement also speaks volumes regarding the program’s future! As Greeny and her staff continue to develop a positive and dedicated team culture, prospective players will learn to thrive in all areas – personal, athletic, and academic.
