West Virginia University’s football and wrestling teams have recently announced additions to both of their respective staffs, according to WVU Athletics. Read more: WVU Wrestling, Football add to respective staffs.
The wrestling team announced on July 1 that former WVU wrestler Peyton Hall has been added to the staff as an assistant coach. The all-time winningest wrestler in program history returns to the same school after wrapping up his collegiate career in the 2024-25 season.
As for the football team, they announced six new staff updates on social media Wednesday.
Hall returns
The addition of Hall to the coaching staff is a massive boost to the program. After spending his entire five-year career at WVU, the West Virginia native amassed a program-leading 135 wins.
He qualified for the NCAA championships in all five years, including a third-place finish in his final year at the program. He also placed seventh in his senior year.
Hall also excelled at the Big 12 Championships, placing top-6 or higher each year. His best finish came in his final year when he became the Big 12 champion at the 165-pound weight class. As a sophomore, he also finished as the runner-up.
Beyond the mat, Hall also represented WVU well in the classroom as he earned All-Academic Big 12 First Team honors four times. As a freshman, he was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
Hall played a major role in putting West Virginia wrestling on the map at the national level. During his time, he consistently was one of the best wrestlers in the 165-pound class.
Now that he’s back as a coach, he will continue to help elevate the program on the sidelines.
Football hires
For the football team, they announced six hires across the support staff and the coaching ranks.
Azar Wilson joins the staff as the assistant defensive ends coach after serving as Delta State University’s defensive line coach in 2025, where he helped the defense hold opponents to fewer than 20 points per game.
Bradley Latchford joins the staff as an athletic trainer. Dylan McDilda also joins the support in 2026 as an equipment manager.
Rounding out the hires are Jackson Saunders and TJ Edminson, who both join the creative services department. Saunders will serve as the Assistant Director of Creative Content, while Edminson becomes the Director of Creative Video.
