Joshua Surigao and Bourne Braves competing for Cape Cod Championship
At the beginning of the Cape Cod League playoffs, three teams with WVU Baseball players were competing.
Fast forward to the championship series and the Bourne Braves, led by Joshua Surigao, are in a tight battle with the Harwich Mariners for the title.
The Braves had to defeat one of the other teams with a Mountaineer rostered, the Hyannis Harbor Hawks with Matt Ineich, to reach the championship. Bourne swept Hyannis to reach the final.
In Game One of the championship series, Surigao pitched 3.1 innings in relief and helped the Braves to a 7-3 victory.
In Surigao’s championship appearance, he had four strikeouts, allowed no runs and was the winning pitcher.
Game Two, which did not feature Surigao, was a 1-0 victory for the Mariners.
Game Three is set to take place on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Harwich, Massachusetts. The game can be streamed online at Cape League TV.
Surigao made 11 appearances for WVU this past season and had a 3.60 ERA. He is headed into his junior year.
WVU All-American Gavin Kelly also played briefly with the Braves following his run with Team USA, but has not appeared in recent weeks.
Northwoods League playoffs begin, featuring David Hagen and the Willmar Stingers
The Northwoods League featured two teams this season with WVU Baseball players, including the Willmar Stingers and the Richmond Flying Mummies.
The league has narrowed down to eight teams for the playoffs and the Willmar Stingers with David Hagen are competing.
Despite some amazing stat lines and electric moments between the trio of Colton Sims, Weston Mazey, and Maxwell Molessa, the Flying Mummies did not make the playoffs.

The Willmar Stingers are currently facing the St. Cloud Rox in the quarterfinal round, with the series tied up at 1-1.
The Stingers lost to the Rox 7-3 in Game One, but won the second game, 4-0, to force a third game.
Hagen has not pitched in the playoffs with the Stingers yet.
Game three takes place Tuesday at 7:35 p.m. EST in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The game can be streamed on FLO College.
Hagen played 15 games for WVU this past season and had eight starts with a 4-1 record. He will be a junior this coming year.
Other collegiate summer league updates
The New England League is currently in its league championship series between the Sanford Mariners and Danbury Westerners.
Before the championship series, the Bristol Blues faced the Mariners in the divisional championship round.
The Blues had two WVU players rostered, pitchers JD Costanzo and Hudson Cavallo.
The Blues picked up one win against the Mariners in the series, but lost 9-7 in Game Three.
In the championship series, the Mariners currently lead the Westerners, 1-0.
David Hagaman called up to AA.
Moving on to MiLB, David Hagaman has been one of the best pitching prospects amongst former Mountaineers this season.
Hagaman recently went on a three-game streak where he was the winning pitcher with the Hillsboro Hops (A+), and was called up to the Amarillo Sod Poodles (AA) this past Tuesday.
Additionally, Hagaman moved up in the Arizona Diamondbacks prospect rankings and is listed as the No. 3 prospect in the organization.
In his debut with the Sod Poodles, Hagaman had a solid outing, pitching five innings with 10 strikeouts. Unfortunately, Hagaman gave up two runs, which were enough to hand him the loss.
Overall, Hagaman has been solid and a strikeout machine with 96 total punchouts in 2026.
Hagaman was drafted by the Texas Rangers 133rd overall in 2024. The Diamondbacks received Hagaman in a trade in 2025 that sent Merrill Kelly to the Rangers.

This week, the Summer League Mountaineer Player of the Week is Joshua Surigao. His performance in game one of the Cape Cod League Championship Series gave Bourne momentum in the series.
The MiLB Mountaineer Player of the Week is Kyle West. West continues to be one of the strongest hitters for the Hudson Valley Renegades, and his two homers show his strength.
That’s all for this edition of “Around the Farm.” The series rolls on next week with a final recap of the collegiate summer leagues and more news across the MiLB.
