The Ross Hodge Radio Show – Live from Kegler’s: February 26 preview

WVU (16-12, 7-8 Big 12) has lost three consecutive games and four of its last five. They have slowly dropped off Joe Lunardi’s bubble watch, and the only chance of making the tournament is by securing major victories in the Big 12 Tournament. They face No. 19 BYU on Saturday, February 28, so it is a great chance to salvage any remaining hope. Either way, head coach Ross Hodge is live from Kegler’s to discuss everything WVU hoops! What to expect

WVU beat UCF to gain a decent chance of making the tournament, but followed that with a horrible loss to Utah. Utah is 2-13 in the Big 12 and 10-18 overall. They are tied for last place in the conference, and WVU lost to them in Morgantown. That was easily the worst game of the season for WVU. They started the game by scoring just three points in the first eight minutes. The Mountaineers had only nine points with seven minutes left in the half, yet somehow finished with 21 at the break.

They pulled within two points with four minutes remaining, but never tied the game. WVU never led in the game against one of the worst teams in the Big 12. Their hopes of making the tournament basically vanished after that loss.

The Mountaineers followed that up with two road losses against TCU and Oklahoma State. They went to overtime against the Cowboys but were outscored 14-7. Oklahoma State scored the first seven points of the extra period and coasted to victory.

The bright side for WVU is that they have a five-star and two three-star recruits signed for next season. Miles Sadler is the highest-ranked point guard in his class. Aliou Dioum, Sadler’s teammate at Bella Vista Prep, is the No. 28-ranked center in the class and has signed with WVU. Kingston Whitty, a 6-foot-2 point guard, is also signed with the Mountaineers. Head coach Hodge, Tony Caridi, and Brad Howe are sure to discuss the future of WVU basketball, along with the remaining games this season, live from Kegler’s!
