No. 24 WVU Baseball (6-1) dropped 19 runs on Ohio in the Mountaineers’ most recent outing. They take a well-oiled offense to Kennesaw, Georgia, to face Kennesaw State (4-3) in a weekend series. Read more: WVU Baseball returns to the road, set for weekend at Kennesaw State.
For those who followed the 2025 team, WVU’s opponents are quite similar early in the season. Wednesday’s home opener against the Bobcats was a day early from being exactly one year since the ’25 home opener… against Ohio.
Kennesaw State was also part of WVU’s non-conference slate this past season. There were plenty of fireworks in that series, with WVU taking the series.
The Mountaineers lead the all-time series with the Owls, 4-2.
Where the Mountaineers stand
Outside of one loss to Liberty in one half of a doubleheader, WVU has kickstarted the season as a force.
WVU is coming off a 19-6 drubbing of Ohio. The outcome could have been worse for the Bobcats, if not for one inning of shaky defense from the Mountaineers.
Relief pitcher Wyatt Mosely proved to be a source of WVU’s shakiness, allowing three earned runs, three walks, a HBP, and only one strikeout. No harm, no foul, though. The skipper for the Mountaineers described rotating pitchers in, like Mosely, as a luxury.
“You have to be able to win the game, first and foremost,” WVU Head Coach Steve Sabins said following the game. “But if you want to be best at the end of the season, you have to get guys experience.”
The offense performed in waves on Wednesday. WVU’s offense rattled off 14 of its 19 runs in the second, sixth, and eighth innings, respectively.
