Potential Topics To Be Discussed

The Mountaineers have dominated early-season opponents at home, outscoring foes by an average of 19.3 points while forcing 15.3 turnovers per game. Guards Honor Huff and Jasper Floyd have fueled the attack, with forward Brenen Lorient providing double-double potential (career-high 26 points vs. Lehigh).

West Virginia’s defense has been exceptional through the first three games, ranking among the national leaders in steals (15.3 per game). They are also holding opponents to a stifling 35.7% from the field and just 28.6% from three-point range thus far. The Mountaineers’ aggressive pressure has generated 46 turnovers and disrupted opposing offenses from the opening tip.

However, offensive rebounding continues to be an area of concern for the Mountaineers early in the season. The team currently posts a modest offensive rebounding percentage of 23.9%, ranking outside the top 300 nationally.

West Virginia has struggled to secure second-chance opportunities without senior forward Jackson Fields, who is sidelined indefinitely with a thumb injury. This creates vulnerability that could prove costly against stronger rebounding teams like Pittsburgh.
