WVU rolled to another easy victory

After defeating Purdue Fort Wayne by a 36-point margin in its season opener, WVU followed that up with an 88-47 victory over Kent State on Friday night.

WVU Volleyball falls to Baylor and TCU in straight sets

For the second straight contest, the Mountaineers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They held a 42-22 advantage at the break and outscored their opponent 46-25 in the second half. This includes a 24-15 scoring edge in the final frame.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, WVU’s defense was front and center once again. This group held the Golden Flashes to 32.7 percent overall, to go along with 16 steals.

Furthermore, the Mountaineers forced a whopping 31 turnovers, which resulted in 45 points — more than half of the team’s total points in this contest. WVU also outscored Kent State inside by a 44-20 margin.

It will be interesting to see if the defense rises to the occasion against an opponent who is also undefeated through its first two games.

Temple Owls dominate in their victory against George Washington

While the Owls needed overtime to defeat George Mason in their season opener, the narrative against George Washington was vastly different.

Both teams struggled early, combining for just 22 points, with Temple holding a narrow 13-9 lead after the opening stanza. However, the Owls poured it on over the middle two quarters, outscoring  GW 51-25 on their way to a 36-point victory.

Four players reached double figures for Temple. Jaleesa Molina led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds. Kaylah Turner finished with 14 points, connecting on four of her six attempts from deep.

Like West Virginia, the Owls also produced a solid defensive effort. They held George Washington to 34.5 percent shooting overall and 17.6 percent from beyond the arc. Temple also won the rebounding battle 48-31.

WVU vs. Temple Prediction: Who has the edge?

Both teams are 2-0 and are coming off dominant victories in their previous outings. However, if WVU brings its “A” game defensively, it should have the edge in this battle of 2-0 teams.

Prediction: West Virginia in a close one
