WVU Coming Off Another Impressive Season Under Mark Kellogg
The WVU women’s basketball team closed out the 2024-25 regular season with a 25-8 record, including a 13-5 mark in Big 12 play. Even more important, it marked the second consecutive season in which they posted 25 victories and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

In the opening round, WVU overwhelmed Columbia, racing out a 46-29 lead through the first two quarters on its way to a 78-59 victory. The team’s reward was a second-round matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned against UNC as the Mountaineers were defeated 58-47 and held to single digits in the second and fourth quarters. West Virginia shot just 24.1 percent from the field overall and 2-for-21 from beyond the arc.
The bad news is that the Mountaineers will have the unenviable task of trying to replace JJ Quinerly, one of the program’s talented players. On the flip side of the narrative, Jordan Harrison is back in the fold after a season in which she compiled averages of 13.7 points and 4.5 assists per game. She will be joined by Sydney Shaw, who averaged 11.4 points per outing and hit a team-high 67 three-pointers.
Purdue Fort Wayne Is Also Coming Off A Solid Season
On the other side of this matchup, Purdue Fort Wayne is coming off an impressive 2024-25 season as well. The team finished with a 27-9 record and defeated Old Dominion and Butler in the second and third rounds of the NIT. However, their 76-65 loss to Cleveland State in the quarterfinals prevented Purdue from winning the conference tournament and advancing to the NCAA tournament.
Jordan Reid, the Horizon League’s Sixth Player of the Year, is the team’s top returner after averaging 7.1 points per contest last season.
WVU vs Purdue Fort Wayne Prediction: Who Has The Edge?
The Mountaineers were victorious in 10 of their 11 non-conference games last season. Furthermore, the team has produced an impressive 20-1 mark overall in non-league games with Kellogg at the helm. With that in mind, look for the Mountaineers to come out on top in this matchup.
