As the collegiate summer leagues near their end and MiLB had its first full week following the All-Star break, current and former WVU Baseball players are still making the most of their opportunities. Read more: Around the Farm #5: More updates across MiLB and summer leagues
The Around the Farm series will lose a key segment this week, as the USA Collegiate National baseball team played its final game. Current Mountaineer and All-American Gavin Kelly wrapped up play with the team earning a silver medal.

The Valley Baseball League is the only summer league to finish its 2026 schedule this week, but more leagues will end next week.

Sean Goldy finishes Valley Baseball League season
Sean Goldy of the Valley Baseball League played his last game of the season this past week.
Goldy, who competed with the Staunton Braves, wrapped up play in a semifinal series against the Charlottesville Tom Sox. The series ended with the Tom Sox advancing after defeating the Braves twice.
Goldy competed in one of these contests, pitching 0.2 relief innings with no runs scored. He also had one strikeout.
The Tom Sox are set to play the finals against the Winchester Royals, with Game One of the series beginning Tuesday.
Goldy moved around a few summer league rosters this summer before landing with Staunton. He was overall an impressive two-way player with great pitching and batting performances.
Top five summer league performers of the week
Kicking off the top five performers list this week are three players with the Richmond Flying Mummies of the Northwoods League.
First up is infielder Colton Sims, who competed in six games with the Flying Mummies this week. He racked up six hits, three RBI, and one home run.

Another solid performer with Richmond this past week was outfielder Maxwell Molessa. Across six games, he had six hits and two RBI.
The last addition from the Flying Mummies this week is Infielder Weston Mazey. He competed in five games this past week and had seven hits and 4 RBI.
Moving over to the Cape Cod League, utility Armani Guzman had a solid week with the Chatham Anglers. He played six games and had a total of seven hits and eight RBI.
The last player is the only pitcher this week, JD Costanzo of the Bristol Blues in the New England League.
Costanzo pitched in relief for three innings and only allowed two hits and one run. He was the winning pitcher in his lone appearance this week with six strikeouts.
MiLB news
Before we break down the top five MiLB players this past week, there was one former Mountaineer who was released since the last Around the Farm.
Relief pitcher Madison Jeffrey of the Chicago White Sox organization is no longer on the Winston-Salem Dash’s roster. Jeffrey has been with the organization since 2025 and previously played with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.
I will keep an eye on Jeffrey and will report if he ends up with a new team.
Top five MiLB performers of the week
To start the list this week, three players from last week’s list had another solid week.
First, the player I named Mountaineer MiLB Player of the Week last week, Hillsboro Hops starting pitcher David Hagaman, received another win.
Hagaman started one game, pitching a total of 5.2 innings. He allowed three hits and 2 runs, along with three strikeouts.
Next, infielder Kyle West of the Hudson Valley Renegades remains one of the most consistent former Mountaineers. He played all six games this past week and had eight hits, two RBI, and one homer.
The last player from last week’s list is Skylar King of the Salem RidgeYaks. He had seven hits and one RBI across five games.
Making the list for the first time in a few weeks is catcher Paul McIntosh of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He played five games, tallying six hits and one RBI. McIntosh also went on a four-game hit streak.
Rounding out this week’s list is relief pitcher Carlson Reed of the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Across two appearances, Reed pitched a total of four innings, allowing four hits and three runs.
Reed struck out six total batters this past week and was named the winning pitcher in one of his appearances.
Players of the Week
It is now time to name this week’s Mountaineer Summer League and MiLB Players of the Week.
The Mountaineer Summer League Player of the Week is Armani Guzman. Overall, a handful of collegiate summer league players had impressive performances, but Guzman’s eight RBI stood out the most.
This week’s Mountaineer MiLB Player of the Week is Paul McIntosh. Across all his performances this week, McIntosh made a huge impact in each game.
